Landscape provides the core tool to solve the problem. this is why Canonical, a company that supports Ubuntu, announced at the Ubuntu Live conference in Portland, Oregon that it will launch a web-based Ubuntu server and desktop system management tool-Landscape. landscape will be available to paying users of Canonical. more and more commercial users need to conveniently use Ubuntu and realize the difficulties of system management and support. Landscape provides the core tool to solve the problem. this is the first time that Canonical has released local system deployment and management tools for Ubuntu.

It is better to regard Landscape as a Network service rather than a specific product. It is similar to Red Hat Network in Red Hat and ZENworks in Novell.

With Landscape, you can manage, monitor, and maintain all of your Ubuntu machines. with a focus on rapid deployment, Landscape can quickly manage tasks through an easy-to-use web interface.

The software package management function of Landscape allows administrators to remotely manage the system. This allows administrators to quickly find installed software packages and their information, and add and remove software.

This service also allows you to conveniently deploy upgrade updates for Ubuntu desktops and servers. This allows administrators to quickly complete the upgrade after security and feature updates are released.

The administrator can also use Landscape to manage users. This service allows the network administrator to add, edit, and delete users on one or more computers.

Through Landscape, administrators can also manage clusters that contain multiple computers. This allows administrators to perform good control on one or all computers in the cluster.

To use Landscape, you do not have to connect to the Internet within 24 hours. the Administrator only needs to access the Internet occasionally to install and manage the system in a confidential manner. landscape disconnects and remotely controls tasks on desktops, laptops, or servers to be queued. however, after these devices are connected, Landscape can automatically add them.

The program can read system hardware information and report the hardware of each computer. It can also report some operating system elements, such as the running system kernel version number.

Landscape allows administrators to record system performance and compare it with the past. It also allows administrators to compare the performance of multiple systems, such as system Logon Time and disk usage.

This program allows the Administrator to add a note for each system. That is to say, you can add "tag"-Web server and remote desktop for the computer, which makes management more convenient.

Finally, through Landscape, the administrator can review the improvements to system security. Landscape can also provide directories for future running tasks. It can also save historical logs to verify system maintenance behaviors.

Steve George, head of support and service at Canonical, said in a statement: "Our support can greatly improve the customer's efficiency. landscape is an enterprise-level system management tool, which is completed under the easy-to-use Ubuntu philosophy. any commercial Ubuntu deployment on servers or desktops will benefit from the increasing number of products and effectively reduce management costs."

"I'm glad to see that Landscape can serve Canonical customers," said Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Ubuntu. currently, the Canonical Support Service allows customers who intend to deploy Ubuntu to succeed with the help of experts. in the future commercial and enterprise markets, Landscape is a crucial tool for Ubuntu."

Canonical provides two levels of services: every Friday, 9 hours a day and 24 hours a day. for each level, the service can be divided into three forms: desktop, server, and thin client/group. the lowest price is the one-year service period for the desktop, which is USD 250. the maximum value is 7 days and 24 Hours support for thin clients/groups, which is USD 4000. regardless of the service level and type, paying users can enjoy the Landscape service without any additional charges.
