What about the WinXP system without audio devices?
The computer has no sound, and when you open the sound and audio Device Properties window from Control Panel, the audio feature is not available and the "No Audio device" error message appears on the screen.
Workaround:
Step one: Enable the Windows Audio service
Installing sound-related software or software updates disables the Windows audio service. In some cases, the Windows Audio service may not be automatically re-enabled. This may be the main cause of the computer's lack of sound. Follow these steps to check the cause of the failure. If necessary, enable the Windows Audio service manually:
1. Click "Start" and then click "Run"
2. In the "Open" column, enter: "Services.msc", and finally click "OK" button;
3. In the Services window, right-click "Windows Audio" and select "Properties"
4. In the Windows Audio Properties window, select Automatic from the Startup type Drop-down list, and then click the Start button to start the audio service;
6. Click "OK" button to check whether the computer can make a sound. If your computer can make a sound at this point, the software program might disable Windows Audio or prevent Windows Audio from starting with Windows. If the computer still does not have a sound after completing the above operation, proceed to the next step!
Step two: Enable Audio Devices
Follow these steps to check if the audio device is disabled, and if it is disabled, re-enable the audio device:
1. Click "Start", right-click "My Computer", and select "Properties"
2. In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab, and then click the Device Manager button.
3. In the Device Manager window, click the + sign next to sound, video, and game controllers. If an item in the sound, video and game manager drop-down menu has a red X icon, right-click the item and choose Enable, if there is no red "X" on all speaker icons, skip to the next step!
4. Enable all items under sound, video and game controllers, and then close the Device Manager window;
5. Test whether the computer emits sound. If the computer still does not have a sound after completing the above operation, proceed to the next step!
Step three: Restore the audio device factory pre-installed drivers
Your computer may have Realtek Audio Codec or Creative Audigy software installed. If you do not know which audio hardware you have installed, open Device Manager again and check the sound, video, and game controllers options. Find the brand name of the sound card (for example: Creative, Realtek, or other brand name) and download the official latest sound card driver.
