What is a network controller?

A network adapter, also known as a NIC or NIC (Network interface Controller), is a piece of computer hardware designed to allow computers to communicate on a computer network.

Because it has a MAC address, it belongs to layer 2nd of the OSI model. It allows users to connect to each other via cable or wireless. Each NIC has a unique 48-bit serial number called the MAC address, which is written in a ROM on the card. Every computer on the network must have a unique MAC address. No two cards are produced with the same address. This is because the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) is responsible for assigning a unique MAC address to network interface controller vendors.

Note: The network card is the necessary equipment to connect the computer, if there is no network card, the computer can not connect to the network.
