What is Oracle's policy for Linux?
Oracle fully supports the Linux operating system. In fact, Oracle is the first commercial database for Linux. By using Oracle's industry-leading products to support Linux, we can enable users to deploy enterprise-level solutions on the cheapest hardware and operating system infrastructure. Because users are looking for open, cost-effective solutions, we believe Linux will be more attractive than in the past.
Over the past few years, Oracle and its customers have learned a lot about running Oracle on Linux for enterprise-level deployment. Combining this knowledge with the opportunity to significantly reduce IT infrastructure costs provides a catalyst for Oracle to enter the next stage of development, this stage provides seamless and complete technical support for the Linux operating system (except for the Oracle stack ".. The release of the Complete Oracle solution is critical to the customer's success. The solution includes direct support for the operating system.
Oracle provides enhanced Linux technology, code-level support for major Linux operating systems, and a strategic partnership. Therefore, Oracle is providing customers with an indestructible Linux platform, to deploy Linux securely in a critical task environment.
Which Oracle products can be used in Linux?
All major Oracle products (including Oracle9 I Database with Real Application Clusters, Oracle9 I Application Server, Oracle Collaboration Suite, Oracle9 I Developer Suite, and Oracle E-Business Suite) can be used in Linux.
Are all Oracle9 I Database options available on Linux?
Yes. The Oracle9 I Database option is available on Linux. Oracle9i databases on Linux are the same as those on Windows, UNIX, and other platforms. Oracle databases are available on these platforms. Oracle cooperates with strategic partners (such as Red Hat and UnitedLinux) to enhance the Linux kernel and support enterprise-level functions, in addition, the Linux operating system can effectively run key task application lines in key task applications.
Which versions of Oracle support Linux?
Oracle certification and the following versions are supported:

Conectiva Linux Enterprise Edition: SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 (SLES 8) launched by UnitedLinux, TurboLinux Enterprise Server 8 launched by UnitedLinux, powered by UnitedLinux
Oracle is reluctant to support the differentiated Linux operating system market. There are uncertain number of Linux releases on the market. Customers constantly seek the stability, superior performance and reliability of the Linux platform and enterprise-level support. If we try to support a large number of different Linux versions, Oracle will not be able to effectively serve customers.
Does Oracle have its own Linux version?
No. Oracle does not have its own Linux version. Oracle believes that cooperation with partners such as Red Hat and UnitedLinux is the best way to create a stable and supported enterprise-level Linux release. Oracle is committed to working with the "Linux Group" to enhance the Linux kernel. We work with partners and Linux groups to add new features to the kernel, which is important for running mission-critical applications.
How does Oracle work to enhance Linux technology?
Oracle cooperates with major Linux publishers to test and optimize the operating system to effectively control and process key task applications. For example, Oracle and Red Hat have collaborated to create a set of core enhancement measures in terms of performance, reliability, clustering, and manageability, so that Linux can support enterprise-level deployment of our customers. These efforts are all concentrated in Red Hat's enterprise release, known as Red Hat Linux Advanced Server ). We believe that our cooperation with Red Hat to enhance the Linux kernel will surely benefit all the Linux versions released.
Oracle is actively supporting the Linux open-source code group and is committed to providing the same source code products for Oracle cluster file systems and other products, so as to promote the development of the Linux operating system.
How does one obtain technical support from the Linux operating system?
Oracle provides customers with direct support for Red Hat Linux Advanced Server and power products provided by UnitedLinux. Oracle works closely with Red Hat and UnitedLinux to support the entire software set, including the operating system. Therefore, Oracle customers deployed on Red Hat Linux Advanced Server or UnitedLinux can see improved responses to critical issues and faster solutions. A support organization ensures that the highest level of support is available to our common customers.
Any customers running Oracle products on Red Hat Linux Advanced Server or UnitedLinux should seek support from Oracle if they encounter problems that impede the smooth implementation of Oracle. Oracle will diagnose the problem and work with the OS partner to find out where the problem may occur in the operating system. For those critical issues (P1), No matter what causes the problem (Oracle product or Red Hat, UnitedLinux product ), oracle will provide customers with solutions for extra support issues. Oracle will work with operating system partners to help customers solve their problems together.
To obtain support for Red Hat Linux Advanced Server from Oracle, Oracle customers must maintain a standard or Advanced support contract with Red Hat. Does Oracle plan to perform some of its services on Linux?
Yes. To simplify operations and reduce operation costs, Oracle has tried a variety of methods to make the infrastructure more effective and cost-effective. Oracle's internal IT organization has analyzed and found that Linux-based systems are one of the most effective ways to reduce IT infrastructure costs. Currently, Oracle uses many Linux-based engines and operating systems. In fact, all recently deployed and latest outsourcing services of Oracle run on Linux. We just converted the application demo system and the technical demo system (composed of hundreds of servers) to run the Red Hat Advanced Server. These systems are used by Oracle global sales organizations to provide Oracle E-Commerce kits and Oracle 9i Database demos with RAC to customers and potential customers.
