Simms (Single Inline Memory module, inline memory modules)
The memory strip is connected with the motherboard through the gold finger, and both sides of the memory strip are provided with gold fingers. Gold fingers can provide different signals on both sides, and they can also provide the same signal. Simms is a kind of both sides of the gold fingers provide the same signal memory structure, it is used for the early fpm and Edd DRAM, the first time can only transfer 8bif data, and then gradually developed 16bit, 32bit of Simms module, where 8bit and 16bitSIMM use 30pin interfaces, 32bit use the 72pin interface. After the memory development into the SDRAM era, Simms gradually replaced by the DIMM technology.
DIMM (Dual-inline-memory-modules, dual-row, direct-insert enclosure)
DIMMs are quite similar to Simms, except that the two ends of the DIMM's gold fingers are not interoperable like Simms, and they are transmitted independently.
DIMM signals so that more data signals can be delivered. The same interface with the DDR memory also uses the Dimm, sdram interface is slightly different, the SDRAM DIMM is 168Pin DIMM structure, the gold finger each side is 84Pin, the gold finger has two card ports, is used to avoid inserting the slot, the error will insert the memory backwards to cause the burning; DDR The DIMM uses a 184Pin DIMM structure with a 92Pin finger on each side and only one card on the gold finger. The difference between the number of cards is the most obvious distinction between the two. The DDR2 DIMM is a 240pin DIMM structure with a 120Pin on each side of the golden finger and a single card on the finger of the DDR DIMM, but the position of the card is slightly different from the DDR DIMM, so the DDR memory is not plugged into the DDR2 DIMM. Similarly DDR2 memory is not plugged into the DDR DIMM, so there is no problem with the memory plugging slot in some motherboards with both DDR DIMMs and DDR2 DIMMs.
RIMM (Rambus Inline Memory Module)
Rimm is the type of interface used by Rambus company to produce rdram memory, which is similar to the size of the DIMM, and the gold finger is also double-sided. RIMM has pins that are also 184 pins, with two close tabs in the middle part of the Goldfinger. Rimm non-ECC version has 16-bit data width, ECC version is 18-bit wide. Due to the high price of rdram memory, such a DIY market is rarely seen, RIMM interface is rare to see.
Golden Finger
The golden finger (connecting finger) is the connecting part of the memory strip to the memory slot, and all signals are transmitted through the gold finger. The golden fingers are made up of gold-plated conductive contacts, which are called "Golden fingers" because of their gilded surface and the conductive contacts arranged as fingers. The gold finger is actually on the CCL through the special process to cover a layer of gold, because the gold is very strong oxidation resistance, but also very strong conductivity. But because of the high price of gold, more memory is now used to replace the tin, since the beginning of the 90 's, tin materials began to become popular, the current motherboard, memory and graphics devices such as "gold fingers" are almost all the use of tin materials, only some high-performance server/workstation accessories Contact point will continue to use gold-plated practice, The price is naturally very expensive.
Memory Gold Finger
All the data flow and electronic flow of the memory processing unit are exchanged with the PC system through the contact of the gold finger and the memory slot, which is the output input port of the memory, so the manufacturing process is very important for the memory connection.
