Ok,i know the easy answer are a Database administrator, but what role is? If you had to describe it to a non-technical(non-technical)Who is would you say? There is many defferent roles and functions a DBA can have. Some of the roles or functions I have seen/done are:installing SQL server, managingServer Performance (Performance) including disk space utilization(usage rate), Managing Backups(Backup), controling access and user' s rights/roles,managing replication (Copy) and always-on/multiple failover clusters(failover cluster)and Performance tuning (Adjustment)/indexes(indicator), SQL Jobs, alerts(alarm), database mail, releasing db scripts(Database script). I think these could be described as core(CORE)DBA responsibilities.
Well, I know a simple answer is a database administrator, but what role is that? What would you say if you had to describe him as a non-technician? In fact, a DBA can have many roles and functions. What I've seen or done have: Install SQL Server, manage server performance including hard disk space usage, manage backups, control process and user permissions, manage replication and always online or diversify failover clustering, performance tuning and metrics, SQL work, database alerts, Database Mail, release database scripts. I think these are the responsibilities of a core DBA .
I have a also seen, depending on the size of the "company" For,some DBA has some additional responsibilities. Things that might is described as more database developer such as creating tables, views, functions and stored procs(memory field). Or things that is more in the data architect realm(Data architect field), such as database Design, schema(Mode), nomallization tables(Normalization of association tables), Keys(Key)and indexes. Sometimes,a DBA Mignt Manage the SSIS(SQL ServerIntegration Services)packages that bring data in and/or out of the database. Other times they might need to do some reporting perhaps using SSRS(Reporting Services)or other reporting tools. as you move more into the BI(Business Intelligence)landscape, there may data warehousing(Data Warehouse)and ETL packages to manage. I am sure there is other aspcets of a being a DBA this I have missed.
I also see some The DBA will have some additional responsibilities depending on the size of the company he is working for. Some may be described as biased towards database development engineers such as building tables, views, functions, and storage memory fields. There is also a preference for data architect areas such as database design, schema Design, association table normalization, keys and indexes. Sometimes, a DBA might manage an SSIS package that imports exported data . Other times they also need to do some reports that may use SSRS or other reporting tools. When you are more inclined to business intelligence, you manage data warehouses and ETL packages. I confirm that there are some aspects that I have missing as a DBA .
In my previous job I am hired as a. NET developer that also did database development. It is a very small shop and I am the one with the most database experience. Before I knew it I was installing sqlserver, setting up backups and managing SQL Server performance and more. I spent nine years at this job, where about a thirds of my job was doing dba, database Architcet or database developer WOR K either for the company I worked for or for their clients. No one really asked me to does it,i just jumped in as I saw the need.
in my previous work, I was a . NET developer who also did database development work. It is a very small store system and has a rich database experience I am one of them. Before I knew about it, I was installing SQL Server, setting up backup and managing servers, and so on. It took me 9 years to work in about 2/3 to do DBA, database architecture or database development work for companies or their clients. No one really asks me to do this, I just do what I see need to do.
Now there is some people out there this aim to doing the minimum at work. They is just skating by trying to stay under the radar ( radar ). These people, when they is dbas, are probably doing an adequate jod. The database servers is runing etc,but the-is not-how I-would want to define a DBA. I think one thing that defines a good dba,is someone who's willing and ready to jump in and go above and beyond their job Description. They is managing their core responsbilities, but is also willing to lend a hand at some of the other aspects mentioned AB Ove that could is considered DBA work. They is not afraid of learning/trying something new. They is team players that want to see a project succeed and they is willing role up their sleeves (sleeve) and get their hands dirty in the process.
now many people pursue at least as far as possible at work, they muddle through at work. These people, but when they do DBA , they may only do the right amount of work. The database is already running, and so on. But this is not the DBA I want to define . I think the definition of a good DBA should be willing and ready to do something above or beyond their job. Not only do they manage their core responsibilities, they are willing to take the time to do some of the work that has just been referred to as DBA work. They are not afraid to learn and try new things. They are team-spirit people who want to see the project succeed and they are willing to pay, not afraid of hard work.
How would define a DBA? What roles and responsibilities does you currently has at your job?
How do you define a Dba? What kind of role and responsibilities do you play in your present job? ?
