You have been using Windows XP for a long time and are familiar with Windows XP! Have you summed up some experiences to share with you? Next, I will share some of the experience accumulated during the use of the Windows XP operating system, so that you can quickly get started when using the Windows XP operating system. If you are familiar with XP usage skills, you can enjoy the powerful functions that the XP system brings to you.
1. restore damaged windows xp system files
If Windows XP system files are damaged by viruses or other causes, we can recover the damaged files from the Windows XP installation disk.
Specific Method: Search for damaged files on the Windows XP installation disk. Note that the last character of the file name is replaced by the bottom line "_". For example: if you want to search for “notepad.exe, you need to use "Notepad. ex _ "to search.
After searching, open the command line mode (enter "cmd" in "Run") and enter "EXPAND full path of the source file to the target file ". Example: expand d: SETUPNOTEPAD. EX _ C: WindowsNOTEPAD. EXE. Note that if there are spaces in the path, you need to include the path in double quotation marks (quotation marks.
The search is of course the best, but sometimes we cannot find the files we need in the Windows XP drive. One reason for this is that the file to be searched is in the "CAB" file. Because Windows XP regards "CAB" as a folder, for Windows XP, you only need to drag the "CAB" file right and copy it to the corresponding directory.
If you are using another Windows platform, search for the "CAB" file containing the target file name. In command line mode, enter "full path of the CAB file in the target location of EXTRACT/L", for example, EXTRACT/l c: Windows D: imo-driver. cab Notepad.exe. As before, if there is space in the path, you need to use double quotation marks to include the path.
2. Reject "group similar Taskbar"
Although the "Group similar taskbar button" setting in Windows XP can keep your taskbar clean, it is inconvenient for you to open multiple Windows of the same type ,. If you often use communication software such as QQ to chat with people online, if more than two friends talk to you at the same time, you will immediately feel the inconvenience caused by default settings such as xp d every time you want to switch the conversation object, you need to first click the group, and then select the friend you want to talk to in the pop-up menu, in addition, each friend shows the same icon in the group. When there are many talking objects, you may need to click one by one to see who replied to the question and wait for your response, it is troublesome to select the wrong one from the group. Obviously, it is better to open several windows in the original way. In each small window in the taskbar, you can click once to start chatting. Change Method: Click Start> Control Panel> appearance and topic> taskbar and Start Menu. In the displayed window, remove the hooks before the "Group similar taskbar button" option.
3. unmount useless dynamic links through the Registry
Resource Manager often leaves useless dynamic links in the memory. to eliminate this problem, you can open the Registry Editor and set the key value: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows
Currentversionjavaseralwaysunloaddll = DWORD: 1 set it to 0, and this function will be disabled. Note: To make the settings take effect, restart the computer.
4. Clear pre-read files in the prefetch folder
When Windows XP is used for a period of time, the files in the pre-read folder will become very large and there will be dead chain files in it, which will slow down the system time. Suggestion: delete these files regularly. (Windowsprefetch)
5. Windows XP diet
The following method is my current winXP diet method. After use, I think it is safer and the effect is obvious, which can reduce the space by at least MB. Note: It is not recommended for beginners.
Delete Driver backup: the Driver. cab file under the WindowsDriver cachei386 directory (73 MB). However, we must insert a Windows installation CD every time we install new hardware.
Delete system file backup (rarely used): run the command line sfc/purgecache
Delete the backup dll file: If you have copied the installation file or installed a CD, you can do this. Windowssystem32dllcache file (minus 200 -- 300 mb ).
6. Learn about the start time of Win XP
Although the startup speed of Windows XP has satisfied us, Microsoft still provides us with a small tool to understand the specific startup time consumed during Windows XP startup, and view CPU usage, Disk I/O, etc., as the tool is displayed in graphics, so it is clear at a glance. You can download the tool here.
7. Restore EXE file association
An error occurred while associating the EXE files, because most of these problems are caused by viruses, and the main files of antivirus software are EXE files. Since An error occurred while associating the EXE files, how can I run anti-virus software? Fortunately, XP provides the command line tool in safe mode for us to use. You can use the command line tool to solve this problem.
In safe mode, enter assoc <space>. exe = exefile <press enter>. Then, cmd.exe = exefile is displayed on the screen ". Close the Command Prompt window, press Ctrl + Alt + Del to bring up the "Windows Security" window, press the "Shut Down" button, select the "restart" option, and start Windows in normal mode, all the EXE files can run normally!
8. Make Windows XP update automatically
When Windows is updated, the automatic update system will prompt you to perform Windows upgrade. Of course, this function will have a real effect after the Internet access. One thing you can be certain about is that to implement automatic updates, the system will certainly collect the user's computer information and then transmit it to the Microsoft Site. Through feedback, the system will decide whether to perform the upgrade. This setting is also in the "System Properties" window. You can switch to the "Auto Update" tab and you can see that there are three options, and the last "Disable auto update" is selected ", in this way, the system will not frequently prompt you to perform automatic updates. If you do not use a genuine Windows XP operating system, we recommend that you disable this function, because it may upgrade your system to Windows XP SP2 without knowing it, which may cause system instability.
9. Install IIS in Home
As you know, IIS or PWS cannot be installed in Windows XP Home. In general, you can only upgrade to XP Professional or use Windows 2000. However, you can simply install IIS on Windows XP Home.
First, enter "c: \ Windows \ inf \ sysoc. inf" in "run" in the "Start" menu. The system will automatically open the sysoc. inf file using notepad. In sysoc. find the section "[Components]" in inf, and continue to find the section similar to "iis = iis. dll, OcEntry, iis. inf, hide, 7, replace this line with "iis = iis2.dll, OcEntry, iis2.inf, 7 ". Save and close.
Insert the CD of Windows 2000 Professional into the optical drive, and press Shift to disable automatic operation of the optical drive. Enter "CMD" in the running process and press enter to start the command line mode. Enter the following two commands under the command line and press enter after each command line ends (assuming that the Drive drive is a D Drive ):
EXPand d: \ i386 \ iis. dl _ c: \ Windows \ system32 \ setup \ iis2.dll
EXPand d: \ i386 \ iis. in _ c: \ Windows \ inf \ iis2.inf
In this case, open your control panel, click the "add and delete programs" icon, and then click "add and delete Windows Components ".
Please take a closer look. The operating system displayed in the "Start" menu is Windows XP Home, but after modification, the options for adding IIS are available.
Then you can add IIS in Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000. In this example, we only install the WWW Service. The system starts copying files, which takes some time. In addition, make sure that the Windows 2000 Professional CD is still in the optical drive.
After the installation, you can open "Control Panel> performance and Options> Management Tools" and "Internet Information Service Management.
If you want to verify that IIS is running normally, open IE, enter "http: // localhost" in the address bar, and press Enter. If you can see the interface shown in figure 3, then all your IIS is running normally.
Note: If you need to insert the Window Whistler CD or provide the exch_adsiisex.dll file during installation, IIS is installed according to the default options. To solve this problem, you only need to click "details" when installing IIS, and then cancel the selection of SMTP (that is, do not install the SMTP server ), the two files will not be required when copying files.
If you find that the installation project of Internet Information Service (IIS) is displayed after you install it in Figure 1, but they cannot be selected, this is probably because you are using iis. dl _ and iis. in _ is taken from Windows XP Professional. You only need to switch to Windows 2000 Professional to continue normal installation.
After verification, several services such as WWW and FTP can run properly on Windows XP Home after such modification.
