Gartner believes that AI capabilities will be a means for smartphone makers to improve product differentiation, acquire new customers, and retain existing users. The smartphone market is now transforming from "selling technology products" to "delivering compelling personalized experiences", so AI solutions that run on smartphones will be an important part of the mobile phone manufacturer roadmap for the next two years.


By 2022, Gartner predicts that smartphones with AI capabilities will account for 80% of shipments, compared with only 10% in 2017. Only high-end devices are now equipped with AI capabilities, and they can provide better data protection and power management capabilities than cloud-based AI, because data is processed and stored natively.


"With smartphones increasingly becoming a popular device, handset makers are looking for ways to improve product differentiation. The smartphone will be an extension of the user, able to identify the user and anticipate the user's next move. They will identify who you are, what you want, when you want it, how to accomplish it, and perform the task under the authority you assign.


"Your smartphone will track you all day and learn, plan and solve problems for you," said Angie Wang, a Gartner research analyst. It will use its sensors, cameras and data to accomplish these tasks automatically. For example, in a networked home, when you leave, the AI will clean up with a vacuum cleaner, or start the rice cooker 20 minutes before your arrival. ”


2) User authentication


Simple password-based authentication is becoming increasingly cumbersome and inefficient, resulting in poor security, poor user experience, and high costs. Security technologies that combine machine learning, biometrics, and user behavior can improve availability and self-service capabilities. For example, a smartphone can capture and learn the user's behavior, the mode of walking, the habit of tapping, pressing the phone, scrolling, and typing, so that no password is needed, and the user does not need to be actively authenticated.


3) Emotion Recognition


Smart phones with mood-sensing systems and "emotional computing" capabilities can detect, analyze, process, and respond to people's emotional state and mood.
