What Windows Live Messenger can do

Windows Live Messenger (formerly MSN) has been widely used by white-collar workers. But a lot of friends don't have enough to understand this IM tool. Let's see what it can do--

"Keep in touch with friends, family and colleagues around the world

• Send an instant message to any online contact. Immediately know which friends to talk to.

• Dialogue with a group of friends. You can invite up to 20 friends to join the conversation.

• View the latest information about your contacts. Click a contact (your contact is the object that you communicate with an instant message.) The status icon for a contact list, also known as a buddy list, can view its contact cards (similar to business cards, contact cards that display pictures of contacts, e-mail addresses, shared space updates, and other personal information). To view the contact card, click the Display picture of the contact in the main Messenger window, and the card displays the current information for the contact and links to its Windows Live spaces site (if the contact chooses to provide the link).

• Use mobile devices to send and receive text messages. You can use your computer for Instant messaging with any type of mobile device (an instant message is a way for two or more people to communicate over a network (such as the Internet) for instant communication. You can also send messages to MSN Direct Watch.

• Send and receive instant messages with your mobile contacts. Advanced mobile Messaging allows you to chat with mobile contacts in the same way you would normally chat with your PC contacts. This feature varies depending on your region, the mobile operator of the contact, and the mobile device.

• Send voice clips to express the individuality of self. Sometimes, messages may not express exactly how you feel. Now, you can say your instant message instead of typing it through the keyboard. A voice message is a small file that you send to a contact for up to 15 seconds.

• Save the conversation. You can use Messenger to automatically save all conversations. Important ideas, interesting conversations, and how long you want to keep them. This feature requires that Windows Internet Explorer 6 or later be used.

• Create your personal space on the Windows Live spaces. Easily share your thoughts, photos, etc. on your site.

Display in the Messenger main window and in all dialog windows) or create your own display picture. • Express your feelings. Add emoticons to messages (small images that can be inserted into messages to represent a particular mood or attitude) or create your own emoticons. You can install a variety of emoticons from our partner site.

• Change your personal message. Create your own personal message (the custom message that appears next to the contact name in the Windows Live Messenger main window) and make changes as needed.

• Share music names. Show your contacts the songs that Windows Media player is playing.

• Personalize your background image. • Block messages from a particular person. Don't have to endure annoying emails. By clicking the button, you can block a contact from sending you a message and see your status (indicates whether the contact is logged in and can receive instant messages.) The status appears in parentheses next to the display name.

• Block messages from strangers. Help protect your privacy by restricting incoming messages from contacts in your Allow list, which you can see when you are online and can contact your users ' lists.

• Keep track of who your child is talking to. Monitor your child's use of Messenger with the Parental Controls feature. The online activity report tells you the following information: How long your child is using Messenger and who to talk to.
