The researchers found that 70% of the discarded laptop batteries were enough to power the LED lights. They took the batteries apart, took out the batteries that were still available, and used some extra batteries to produce the complete battery pack. If you supply LED lights for 4 hours a day, these batteries can provide 1 years of service life.

In the initial tests, the researchers offered the battery pack to 5 people in Bangalore, India, to illuminate roads in slums or sidewalks. The test was very successful, and the upgraded version of the battery pack is now being tested.
