When Bob Hecht joined Informa as vice president of content strategy, he once imagined using Linux and other open-source technologies to rebuild the company's IT infrastructure (Informa is a London-based technology Publishing Company ).

However, with the use of Windows products gradually rooted in the company, Hecht decided to implement a more practical integration solution: Using Open-Source Software Product Management servers from Alfresco Software company, in addition, open-source applications such as MySQL, Apache Tomcat, and JBoss run in Microsoft's Windows server operating system.

Open-source desktop technologies, such as OpenOffice application packages and Firefox Web browsers, have long sought the most out of the Windows user base. However, the background server software has a different problem.

Microsoft and open-source product manufacturers believe that whether to use their software is a one-off decision: either Microsoft exclusive. NET infrastructure, or select the LAMP application software integration suite including Linux, Apache Web server, MySQL database, and Perl/Python/PHP programming language.

However, Hecht chooses the third method, namely WAMP (Windows, Apache, MySQL, Perl/Python/PHP), and the number of users like him is increasing. Windows advocates said that WAMP has brought benefits to both camps.

Although obtaining a Windows License may make the new content management system more expensive than a Linux hardware-based system, the former does not require additional professional IT staff, or increase the knowledge and skills to support open-source operating systems for existing employees, so there will be no extra expenditure issues in the financial aspect, Hecht said-Informa is currently testing the system.
