Before getting started with Eclipse, I have heard of IBM Websphere and used it in the trial version of a programmer's book. However, since I didn't focus on Java development at the time, so after a simple look, it will be gone, and there is no in-depth study.
Later, I came into contact with Eclipse, an open-source development tool, a great software because of its flexibility. After using it for a while, I abandoned all other Java development tools, because Eclipse is too good. But there is always a problem that makes me very strange, that is, the IBM Copyright icon on the Flash screen of Eclipse, later I learned that IBM has provided tens of millions of dollars to Eclipse developers. Since he already has his own Websphere as a java development tool to support Eclipse, isn't he committing suicide?
Later, I got the message that websphere was formed by the basic Eclipse core and more than two hundred plug-ins. At this time, I began to understand something, it turns out that IBM is using excellent Eclipse developers to work for them cheaply!
Until a few days ago, I attended a new product promotion meeting in IBM, which introduced an integrated development environment that became RSA, it includes a series of tools from initial requirement analysis, outline design, detailed design, coding, and final testing and deployment. However, its advantage is that once a company buys this product, it can obtain a development environment with the same user interface. This not only makes the conversion of developer roles very easy, in addition, you will not select products from other companies after you select them. It can be said that this product is intended to be the tool Terminator for java developers.
What shocked me even more happened. The core of this huge environment turned out to be the Eclipse that IBM has been spending money on. It is precisely because of the flexible plug-in mechanism of Eclipse, IBM has made a very good development environment!
We will always pay attention to the prospects of this integrated environment and believe that there will be a huge market. The people who are most likely to use this product in the future must be the original Eclipse developers.
From this point of view, at the earliest time, IBM invested in Eclipse so that it could survive and develop well. IBM has developed Eclipse. Now, with Eclipse, IBM has made a great product. It is clear that Eclipse has completed IBM.
IBM's foresight as a world-famous big company is really admirable. Sun's support for java surprised me. This IBM's strategy once gave me that feeling.
