Compressing database files can improve the performance of your database, but sometimes when you compress a database, you are reminded that the database cannot be compressed. If you delete a database object in an Access database, or if you delete an object in an Access project, an Access database or an Access project can cause fragmentation and reduce the efficiency of disk space usage. Compressing an Access database or an Access project actually copies the file and organizes how the file is stored on disk. Compressing the database file does improve database performance and repairs errors in the database. Generally speaking, the following are the reasons why Microsoft Access databases or Microsoft Access projects cannot be compressed:
1. Disk space is no longer able to accommodate both the original and compressed Access database or Access project versions. Please delete unnecessary files and try again.
2. There is no permission to open/run and open an Access database in an exclusive manner. If you do not own this database, contact the owner to determine whether you can obtain these two permissions for the database. If you have this database, you must update the permissions.
3. Other users have open an Access database or Access project.
A 4.Access database or Access project is in a read-only shared network, or its file properties are set to read-only.
