Why. NET is called. Net?

Microsoft developed the. NET framework in the late the 1990s and was originally called "Next-generation Windows service" (Next Generation Windows services abbreviation NGWS). So why would Microsoft choose. NET this name? This is indeed a bit cryptic, but the following answer is the best explanation I have so far:

1). NET is proposed by Microsoft marketers to represent "networking" technology, and Sun's marketers have raised their theme: "The Internet is the computer." Dot COM became synonymous with the internet, and Dot Net was the extension of the word.
