If Microsoft launched Virtaul PC virtual software or his experiment, VMware did not put the experimental nature of the product in the eye. This year, Microsoft's Hyper-V virtual Server software, launched with Windows Server 2000, poses a real threat to the market position of VMware ESX under the Wintel architecture.
First of all, in Windows Server environment, Microsoft is the most understanding of the bottom, Hyper-V as a stand-alone version of Windows Server 2008, but also closely combined with the bottom. and VMware as a third-party stand-alone virtual software, although there are support for Windows, Linux, UNIX advantages, but in the increasingly powerful and popular Windows Server, it is actually through a large number of driver interface programs and operating system and hardware interface for data exchange, Its stability and execution efficiency will be inherently higher than that of Hyper-V lesser. On the performance of the comparison, many third-party authoritative evaluation agencies have a large number of comparative articles and charts, I do not repeat here.
VMware's vaunted virtual engine hypervisor used to be the most efficient virtual technology, but after the launch of Microsoft Hyper-V, the advantages of its inherent integration with the operating system have left VMware with no advantage in the Windows Server platform. In the simplest case, the application of a virtual server, VMware, first to complete the installation of the operating system, regardless of the choice of Windows Server or Linux, because VMware is only a set of server applications, rather than supporting the virtual service operating system. Hyper-V, the product that enterprise customers want, is first and foremost a stand-alone virtual server operating system, that is, customers need to obtain only one authorization, not the licensing of the operating system, but the authorization to purchase virtual server software separately. As a result, Hyper-V has the advantage of reducing TCO over VMware in enterprise applications, which is a concern of enterprise CIOs.
In addition to cost advantages, I personally think that the technical staff is most concerned about usability and compatibility issues. Although VMware as an established product, there are many familiar with its operating methods of technical personnel. But Hyper-V as Microsoft's products, its ease of use is inherently guaranteed, configuration management interface is very friendly. Hyper-V from the kernel is the Windows Server 2008, only to remove the application software such as Explorer, it uses CMD as a shell, some common Windows GUI is still some such as Taskmgr, Notepad, Virtual machines are managed by System Center Virtaul Machine Manager or Hyper-V Manager MMC, and their installation, management, and ease of use is far greater than VMware. As shown in figure:
When it comes to hardware compatibility, VMware is constrained by its own drive, we have used VMware ESX before the introduction of Hyper-V, the results found that the 5T RAID5 can only be identified as 2 T, wasted half of the storage resources. At present, after using Hyper-V, everything OK. After this incident, I found that the biggest advantage of Hyper-V is that support for Windows Server 2008 hardware can support Hyper-V, Microsoft's appeal, all hardware manufacturers to move closer to it. and VMware ESX as a dedicated server virtual software, hardware manufacturers actively to its compatibility is not very likely, which is the cause of esx poor compatibility.
VMware's supporters have been perfect for Hyper-V performance and compatibility, put the attack point on the 64-bit, in fact, to use high-end virtual server, the use of 64-bit server is not a bit of a point. VMware Esx running on a 32-bit system is just a gimmick, but because compatibility considerations degrade software performance. Hyper-V is undoubtedly the best choice for enterprise virtual servers compared to the high licensing costs of VMware ESX. I personally think that Hyper-V will continue to invade Esx's share in this field, Hyper-V will go farther in enterprise application. Finish
