After myie stops development, it is divided into two major versions: Maxthon (formerly myie2) and green browser (GB ). Yesterday, we suddenly saw that the GB developer decided to open-source the earlier version of GB, called myie.
Myie and later versions are not open-source products, but free versions that can be donated. Why is it open-source? I thought about it yesterday, but I didn't write it down. I also mentioned it on the CCF forum today. By the way, I will talk about it on my blog.
I. Competition between Alibaba Cloud and Maxthon to attract users with poor PC resources.
2. With the release of M $'s ie7.0, the kernel may have been significantly modified. "Is it easy to store your skin ?" GB and Maxthon may naturally die out. This is also the most painful thing for developers who keep up with M $. I never know what to play with Bill's next card? Newly developed GB and Maxthon are probably based on. NET Framework, which means rewrite? Otherwise, it cannot run properly on a 64-bit operating system.
III. It is still the problem of ie7.0. to compete with Firefox, more features, such as Tab labels, may even absorb the strengths of myie. In this case, who should install another GB or "toilet.
This is also the idea of the author of GB, I guess, maybe it's just a little man's heart.
The following is the open source statement of the authors of GB:
Myie open source project
1. myie source code download and use protocol
Before downloading and using the myie source code, read the following agreement and agree to it:
(1). do not generate any commercial software for profit based on myie source code.
(2). do not generate any browser software with similar functions based on myie source code.
(3). You can partially reference the myie source code in other software code, but you are obligated to declare this to the user at the same time.
(4 ). you can modify the myie source code to compile and generate the version you need. However, to avoid confusion in myie version control, you cannot publish the version on the network without the authorization of the myie development team, the modified source code must be synchronized.
(5). You can spread the myie source code without profit.
(6) You can participate in the myie Open-Source Project, report issues, provide suggestions, and provide help and support.
2. Why continue the myie open-source project?
(1 ). as you know, the previous versions of myie3.2 were developed open-source under the main force of Changyou. This project was stopped due to Changyou, and multiple browsers were developed from myie, however, these browsers are not open-source, and greenbrowser was first developed on the basis of myie. After nearly three years of development, it has matured in various aspects. Before the next development process, we want to explore the open-source development mode, so we thought of the myie open-source project that was stopped before Changyou.
(2 ). currently, greenbrowser has made great changes in content, appearance, and functions. In particular, it has added many browser auxiliary functions. Although these functions provide browsing convenience to a certain extent, however, it also increases resource usage and reduces browsing efficiency. some users have a lot of opinions on this, so we want to launch a browser that focuses on Web browsing. We want to cut some of the less commonly used functions on the basis of greenbrowser, and use browsing web pages as the main function, remove some of the less frequently used features that do not have much to do with browsing. The goal is green, concise, and fast. the name of this browser is best different from that of greenbrowser, so it should be combined with the myie open-source project.
(3). Different users have different usage habits and requirements. Open source can provide them with the maximum freedom to use.
3. Relationship between myie and greenbrowser
Myie3.2 has many code problems and many functions are not perfect. Therefore, we do not consider using myie3.2 code, in addition, the source code of greenbrowser2.4 is deleted to remove some uncommon features that do not have much to do with browsing, but the main functions and Code remain the same. at the same time, green browser will continue development based on the current version.
