For Firefox, a wide range of extensions are essential to improving its own strength. However, each time there is a large scale upgrade, the extensions must also be updated to ensure compatibility. Now, Firefox 3.1 has entered the Beta testing stage, and Mozilla has also issued an appeal to developers, hoping that everyone will work together to ensure that the most commonly used 95% extension can be compatible with the new version of browsers.
Mozilla said,Of the total 5804 Firefox extensions included in the database, 861 accounted for 95% of the usage. And the remaining 4943 accounts for only 5%.
For the 861 extensions,Firefox 3.0 is fully compatible with 94%, AndFor the latest test version of Firefox 3.1, only 32% is available.Among them, 28% is the official version, 4% is the test version, and 14% is compatible with Firefox 3.1 Alpha preview version, completely incompatible proportion as high as 54%, more than half.
However, some extensions have been abandoned for a long time, so it is still difficult for Mozilla to reach a goal of compatibility.
The final release date of Firefox 3.1 has no definite target, but Beta 2 is expected to be released by the end of this month. There may be another Beta 3 later.
