Xiao Zhang is one of the company's local subnet Saes.grfwgz.com, because all are marketing department employees, although there are many employees, but in general, only a small number of employees in the unit use the network, so in order to save IP address resources, IP address using DHCP automatic distribution, the network segment for 192.168.0.1 29~192.168.0.158.

The following are the specific configuration methods.

Because the DHCP server can be configured differently, one is to add a new DHCP server, the other is to add a new scope to an existing DHCP server, and of course you can modify an existing scope. Let's introduce the former first.

First, add a new DHCP server

If the original server does not have a DHCP server installed when the domain controller is installed, you can install and configure the DHCP server separately after the domain controller is installed. Configuring a DHCP server in a Windows Server system is simpler and more intuitive, because it is done through a graphical interface and is as easy to understand as other server configuration methods. This configuration method also applies to the DHCP server configuration of the Windows Server home system.

(1) Execute the "start" → "Administrative Tools" → "Manage Your Server" desktop menu operation, open as shown in Figure 1 window.

(2) The "Add or Remove Roles" link entry at the top of a single hit, opening the wizard dialog box shown in Figure 2. In this dialog box, show the steps you must take to prepare the wizard.

(3) Click the Next button to open the dialog box shown in Figure 3. Displays the configuration of the roles in the current server in this dialog list, finds the DHCP server entry, and you can see that the DHCP server role is not currently configured.

Figure 3 The Server Role dialog box

(4) After you select the DHCP server item, click the Next button to open the dialog box shown in Figure 4. The server role configuration instructions that you selected are summarized in this dialog box. It doesn't make much sense.

(5) Click the Next button directly to open the dialog shown in Figure 5. This is a Process dialog box for the server installation component. Displays the component installation process that was performed in order to install the DHCP server.

(6) After the component installation is complete, the system automatically returns to the New Scope wizard, as shown in Figure 6. Click the Next button to open the dialog box shown in Figure 7. In this dialog box, you need to enter a new scope name.

(7) Click the Next button to open the dialog box shown in Figure 8. In this dialog box, enter the start and end IP address (192.168.0.129~192.168.0.158) for the sales subnet. And in the length and subnet mask entries below, set the number of digits in the subnet IP address that are used for network ID + Subnet ID and the subnet mask for the subnet. From the previous configuration, we can know that in this subnet, 27 bits are used as the network Id/subnet ID, the subnet mask is 255.255.255.224. Note that these two items are related, not random, if the mismatch is correct, the system will automatically amend.

(8) Click the Next button to open the dialog box shown in Figure 9. In this dialog box, you are asked to specify an IP address to exclude. An excluded IP address is an IP address that is not used for automatic assignment. This is in a subnet where the IP address of a domain controller is usually statically configured and usually takes the first available IP address in the subnet. Therefore, this only excludes the first IP address 192.168.0.129 (if there are other servers to adopt static IP address, it also needs to be excluded, otherwise it will cause IP address conflicts).

(9) Click the Next button to open the dialog box shown in Figure 10. In this dialog box, you are required to specify the time limit for these IP addresses to be used once. It is usually not configured, and of course if the server is configured for those temporary users, you can limit their use time here.

(10) Click the Next button to open the dialog box shown in Figure 11. In this dialog box, ask if you want to select whether to now DHCP option. Because these options are basically not configured on the sales subnet, select "No, I want to configure these options later" option here.

11 Click the Next button and open the dialog box shown in Figure 12 to complete the New Scope Wizard. When you click Finish, return to the Manage Your Server Wizard dialog box. The system then pops up the wizard Completion dialog box as shown in Figure 13. The DHCP server role configuration is complete by clicking the Finish button.

Restarting the system takes effect (this is a recommended practice, in fact, in most cases, without restarting the system).

(12) Execute the "start" → "Administrative Tools" → "dhcp" desktop menu operation, open the DHCP server window, as shown in Figure 14. As you can see at this point, it is not activated (the "Disconnected" state is displayed).

(13) Double-click the appropriate DHCP server (in this case, grfwgz01.grfwgz.com), expand the console tree, right-click on the scope, and select the Activate option from the pop-up menu. The DHCP server now shows an "active" state, as shown in Figure 15.

The installation and configuration process for this DHCP server is complete.

Ii. Adding new scopes to existing DHCP servers

Because the DHCP service can also be installed with the domain controller installation, there is usually no need to install it separately, just make some simpler modifications and add a new scope. The following is a detailed method for reconfiguring the DHCP server on the Sales.grfwgz.com child domain controller.

(1) Execute the "start" → "Administrative Tools" → "DHCP" menu operation, open the DHCP window as shown in Figure 16.

   Diagram "DHCP" window

(2) Double-click the DHCP server grfwgz01.sales.grfwgz.com, expand the console tree, double-click the scope option, and select the address Pool option, as shown in Figure 17. From this you can understand the default address range for domain controller installation. Obviously, this scope address range does not conform to the IP address range 192.168.0.129~192.168.0.158 that is planned for this subnet, and you must first remove the default scope. method simply right-click on the scope item and choose Delete from the pop-up menu. Then create a new IP address scope.

(4) Click the Next button to open the dialog box shown in Figure 19. In this dialog box, the new scope is named Sales (because it is configured for the Sales department user) and has a few simple descriptions.

Figure 19 "Role Domain name" dialog box

(5) Click the Next button to open the dialog box shown in Figure 20. In this dialog box, the IP address of the new scope is specified as 192.168.0.130~192.168.0.158 (excluding the IP address used by the subnet domain controller 192.168.0.129), depending on the actual needs. You can also specify the subnet mask for these IP addresses in the dialog box, the length of the network Id/subnet ID, and, depending on the calculation, you need to fill in the length column with 27, and "255.255.255.224" in the subnet mask column.

Map IP Address Range dialog box

(6) Click the Next button to open the dialog box shown in Figure 21. In this dialog box you can specify some IP addresses to exclude from the above address range. These IP addresses to be excluded are typically used for special servers or workstations, and they may need to be in a static IP address mode. Of course, there are no IP addresses to exclude. In this example, because the Internet-connected broadband router has an IP address of 192.168.0.131, it is only necessary to exclude this IP address.

Figure 21 "Add Exclude" dialog box

(7) Click the Next button to open the dialog box shown in Figure 22. In this dialog box you can set the length of time that a client can lease after obtaining an IP address from a DHCP server. Typically, you do not have to set up unless the users who are automatically assigned IP addresses by the DHCP server are temporary users. However, for the sake of safety, it is better to change the lease period to a relatively short time, such as 24 hours, that is 1 days, after all, a continuous work of a user 24 hours is very rare.

(9) Click the Next button to open the dialog box shown in Figure 24. In this dialog box, you can configure the default router (or the default gateway) IP address for the client. In the network of Xiao Zhang's company, the router IP address of this subnet is 192.168.0.131, so the little Zhang adds this IP address in this dialog box.

(10) Click the Next button to open the dialog box shown in Figure 25. In this dialog box, configure the parent domain and DNS server name and IP address for the new scope. The parent domain of the current Sales.grfwgz.com is Grfwgz.com,dns server is the grfwgz.com domain controller GRFWGZ01,IP address is 192.168.0.33, enter the above information.

(11) Click the Next button to open the dialog box shown in Figure 26. In this dialog box, you can specify a WINS server in the network. Because of the various operating systems that clients use in the company's network, some are relatively early versions of Windows (such as Windows 98), which require the WINS service to resolve So the grfwgz.com also has a WINS server configured on the domain control, so the name of the WINS server at this point is also the grfwgz.com domain controller GRFWGZ01,IP address is also 192.168.0.33.

   Figure "WINS Server" dialog box

(12) Click the Next button to open the dialog box shown in Figure 27. In this dialog box, you are asked to select whether to activate this scope now, and Xiao Zhang selects the "Yes, I want to activate this scope" single option.

(13) Click the Next button, the wizard Completion dialog box. Click the Finish button to complete the creation of the new scope and activate the scope at the same time.

These are all the procedures for modifying a DHCP server at an existing DHCP server, or for a new DHCP server scope. The new process of the DHCP server scope will fully configure the properties of the newly scoped scope, including the IP address pool, the IP address lease period, and so on. The DHCP configuration of the client is described below.

Third, DHCP configuration of the client

The following is a method for configuring the DHCP automatic IP address allocation for the Windows XP Professional system for Alice users.

(1) Double-click the Network connection icon in the status bar to open the Network Connections window shown in Figure 28. Displays all network connection entries for the current system in this window.
