Win2003 System services and optimization recommendations
1.Application Layer Gateway Service ALG (Application layer Gateway).
Provides support for Third-party protocol plug-ins for Internet Connection Sharing and Internet connection firewalls. The service process is named Alg.exe.
Dependencies: Internet Connection Firewall (ICF)/internet Connection sharing (ICS)
Recommendation: If you do not use Internet online sharing (ICS) to provide Internet access for multiple computers and Internet Online Firewall (ICF) software, stop.
2.Background Intelligent Transfer Service BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer services).
Use idle network bandwidth to transmit data. When the network shuts down or the computer needs to be restarted, the service automatically maintains the file transfer, and when the network is reconnected, the service continues to transfer files from where it stopped. The service process is named Svchost.exe.
Dependencies: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) and Workstation

6.DNS Client
DnsCache (DNS Client service). Resolves and buffers domain Name System (DNS) names for this computer. The service process is named Svchost.exe.

Recommendation: Stop, depending on the situation, but when you close it, the Remote Desktop Sharing feature will not be available.
10.Network connections
Netman (Network online). Manage the objects in the network and Dial-up Connections folder, where you can view the LAN and remote connections. The service process is named Svchost.exe.
Dependencies: Remote Procedure Call (RPC), Internet Connection Firewall (ICF)/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)
Recommendation: After you close it, you will not see anything in the Network and Dial-up Connections dialog box, let alone a new connection and dial-up access, so unless your machine is an absolute stand-alone environment, start.
11.Network DDE

12.Network DDE DSDM

Dependencies: Network DDE
Recommendation: If you do not need to network DDE service, stop.
13.Network Location Awareness
NLA (Network location Identification service). Collects and saves network configuration information and notifies the application when information changes. The service process is named Svchost.exe.
Dependencies: AfD network support environment, TCP/IP procotol Driver, Internet Connection Firewall (ICF)/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)
Recommendation: For mobile Office users, start.
14.NT LM Security Support Provider
NTLMSSP (NT LM security Support provider service). Provides a security mechanism for Remote Procedure call (RPC) programs that use transport protocols rather than named pipes. The service process is named Lsass.exe.
Dependencies: Telnet
Recommendation: If you do not use the Message Queuing or Telnet Server service, stop.
15.QoS RSVP
RSVP (QoS Admission Control Service). Provides network signaling and local communication control installation capabilities for programs and control applications that rely on quality services (QoS). The service process is named Rsvp.exe.
Dependencies: AfD network support environment, TCP/IP protocol Driver, Remote Procedure call (RPC)
Recommendation: Use to retain 20% bandwidth service if your network card does not support 802.1P or does not have ACS server on your computer's network, stop.
16.Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
Rasauto (remote access Automatic online administrator service). Create a connection to a remote network whenever a program references a remote DNS, NetBIOS name, or address. The service process is named Svchost.exe.
Dependencies: Remote Access Connection Manager, Telephony
Suggestion: If your machine provides network share service to start it, to avoid network disconnection after manual connection, otherwise stop.

Rasman (Remote access Online Administrator service). Create a network connection. The service process is named Svchost.exe.
Dependencies: Telephony, Internet Connection Firewall (ICF)/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
Suggestion: According to the specific situation.
18.Remote Desktop Help Session Manager
Rdsessmgr (Remote Desktop Assistance service). Manage and control Remote Assistance. If this service is terminated, Remote Assistance will not be available. Before you terminate this service, see the Dependencies tab on the Properties dialog box. The service process is named Sessmgr.exe.
Dependencies: Remote Procedure call (RPC)
Recommendation: for managing and controlling Remote Assistance, you can stop if you do not use it.
19.Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
RpcSs (Remote procedure Call). Provides an endpoint mapper (endpoint mapper) and other RPC services. The service process is named Svchost.exe.
Dependencies: A considerable number of services are dependent on its operation
Recommendation: Many services need to be dependent on it to run, start.
20.Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator
Rpclocator (Remote procedure Call location service). Manages the RPC name Service database. By its name management of RPC, the caller can find the location of the callee. The service process is named Locator.exe.
Dependencies: Workstation
Recommendation: Because of the existence of the system registry, the use of naming management does not have practical significance to stop.

22.Secondary Logon

Recommendation: If there is no need to share with other computers, stop.
24.TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper

Recommendation: If your network does not use NetBIOS or WINS, stop.
25.Telnet
Tlntsvr (telnet service). Allows remote users to log on to this computer and run programs, and supports a variety of TCP/IP Telnet clients, including unix-based and Windows based computers. The service process is named Tlntsvr.exe.

26.Terminal Services
TermService (Terminal Services). Allows multiple users to connect and control a computer and display the desktop and applications on a remote computer. The service process is named Svchost.exe.
Dependencies: Remote Procedure Call (RPC), Fast User switching compatibility, Interactivelogon
Recommendation: Remote Desktop or Remote Assistance functions, if no special needs, stop.
27.Workstation lanmanworkstation (Workstation service).
Create and maintain a client network connection to a remote service. The service process is named Svchost.exe.
Dependencies: Alerter, Background intelligent Transfer Service, Computer Browser, Messenger, Net Logon, Remote Procedure call (RPC) Locator
Recommendation: Internet network is required for some of the features to start.
