Win7 + Ubuntu 14.04.1 64 dual system installation

Background: My notebook before the system is window 7 + Ubuntu 14.04.1, with UEFI boot system. The installation process is first installed Win7, and then installs Ubuntu. It was a very harmonious match, but because when the Win7 was loaded, format the hard disk as GPT (globally Unique Identifier Partition table) partitioned table (with Diskgenius lattice in the PE system), and checked the MSR partition (Microsoft Reserve, Microsoft Reserved), so finally the system will appear two partitions before the C drive : 512MB ESP (uEFI System partion) partition and 128MB MSR partition. This causes the Windows 7 system to fail to activate . A variety of activation tools have been tried and failed.

Here are two correspondence:

UEFI ~ GPT
Legacy ~ MBR (main boot record, Master boot recording)
In general, the system uses UEFI boot, then the hard disk format is better than GPT format.
For example, in the case of UEFI+GPT installation Win7+ubuntu 14.04 dual system, first installed Win7 after installing Ubuntu. When started is the Ubuntu gurb boot Win7 (that is, the display Flash notebook logo (This is the UEFI boot) and the Ubuntu grub interface into the purple background. In this interface choose to start the Windows system or Ubuntu, or memory test, etc.).
In such a dual-system environment, if the Windows 7 system is re-installed (the Linux partition does not move), the Ubuntu Grub menu will not be overwritten and will normally enter Ubuntu. guess reason: This is because the ESP and MSR partitions are not moved when reloading Win7, and the grub of Ubuntu is installed in ESP, so grub still exists.
But if it is a dual system under the Legacy + MBR, after reloading the Win7, Ubuntu grub is gone. Boot directly into Win7 and then have to take some steps to restore the Ubuntu boot menu. See restore Ubuntu Grub covered by Win7.

The general situation is with UEFI + MBR, or legacy + GPT. The feasibility and stability of this collocation see this article "WIN8 and WIN7 64-bit and 32-bit respectively on the legacy BIOS+MBR and uefi+gpt two kinds of starting mode and the installation feasibility analysis under the partition structure"

Then, the next goal is very clear, the use of legacy + MBR reload Windows 7 and Ubuntu, so Win7 C disk before the ESP and MBR partition, to achieve the purpose of activation.

Brief steps:

1. Enter BIOS set to legacy boot (in fact I am using UEFI).

2. Start the disk into the PE system with u disk, and format the whole disk into MBR partition Table Form with Diskgenius in PE system. Then the partitions are as follows:

A primary partition is a C drive, an extended partition contains def three logical partitions, free of more than 60 g fixed, left to install Ubuntu. (The next two partitions because I have installed Ubuntu, so it has been shown as the primary partition.) Should be an unallocated free space before the installation of Ubuntu, and then partition the free space when you install Ubuntu

3. Install the Win7 system to the C drive in the PE system.

4. After rebooting into the Win7, use the EASYBCD HDD installation method to install Ubuntu 14.04.1.

Here are the detailed procedures, along with some possible errors.

Errors that may occur when you install Win7

(1) After using the Diskgenius partition in the PE system, and then installing Windows 7 with Windows Installer, the image file under the C drive may be reported as corrupted when deploying the mirror to about 6%. My solution is to Diskgenius after the division, quit the Diskgenius, and then in the computer, right-click on the C-disk again format again.

(2) Then, if the normal deployment of mirroring to 100%, the initial installation is completed, will let you restart. If the error is not found after reboot (system can not be found) or XXX lost to let you press CTRL ALT Delete restart, then you restart, select boot from the USB stick, and then in the PE options menu select Try booting the system from the local hard drive . You should then go to the Windows installation interface.

(3) Next, the installer will start the service, install the device, and after 100%, if the box error says "Windows Installer cannot configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware". The reason for this error is that there are many explanations on the Internet, I am here because the partition of the time set C disk for the active partition, and finally put the system to the F disk. This is not usually the fault, I see it for the first time. The solution that really came up:
When prompted, Press SHIFT+F10 will open the Command window, go to the C:\windows\system32\oobe folder, enter Msoobe return and enter Msoobe to enter the next operation, but the error box is still in, Do not bother to follow the onscreen prompts to enter the appropriate information. Then will return to the box error interface, again into the command Line window, with the shutdown command shutdown after the restart. Complete the subsequent desktop settings. The WIN7 system does not have any problems after installation.

Good! It's a good place to finish Win7, and then it's time to install Ubuntu.

First, the solution is to use the EASYBCD auxiliary hard disk installation. engraved U disk installation is to die!!! a variety of dead methods are said behind. First, install Ubuntu14.04.1 with EASYBCD secondary hard disk under Windows 7. See using EASYBCD to install Ubuntu in WIN7/8 HDD. Ubuntu 14.04.1 during the installation process, if a blank partition was previously left, it will have an option to install Ubuntu with Windows 7 coexistence, such as:

"" "If you want to partition yourself (with the last item something else), then there is a detail to note: When installing Ubuntu, choose the location of boot loader installation, if the entire hard drive is selected, the result is that the entire Windows partition is gone, Finally, the ESP partition (UEFI system partion) is formed in front of the hard disk 512MB. Because the legacy+mbr mode was used before the win 7, Ubuntu 14.04.1 with the EFI feature, and the ESP partition is used when it is installed. so guess should choose Ubuntu boot loader installation location for EXT4 partition??? After selecting "Install Ubuntu with Windows 7 coexistence", how does the Ubuntu installer install grub??? This remains to be studied. 】】】

After you have installed Ubuntu, you can verify the above statement in the Disk Management program. For example, the Windows partition is intact. The free partition is partitioned into Linux EXT4 partitions and Linux swap partitions. The remaining 1.1MB of the tail is ignored.

The following is said engraved u disk installed Ubuntu 14.04.1 all kinds of dead Method!!

(1) First look at the Universal USB Installer (UUI) tool that is given on the Ubuntu website Universal-usb-installer-1.9.5.7.exe and Ubuntu-14.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso engraved on the U disk after the start, error as follows:

This error has not found a good solution for various searches on the internet.

(2) then try UltraISO engraved u disk. LEGACY+MBR mode installed Win7, and then under Windows with UltraISO engraved 4G USB flash drive, the format of the USB flash drive is FAT32. After engraving the Ubuntu 14.04.1 from the USB stick must be set to boot the BIOS for UEFI, otherwise it will not start . OK, start up, start installing Ubuntu, the result is the following error:

This error on the Internet is that, with UltraISO engraved u disk, the U disk is FAT32, the hard drive to store the ISO file is in NTFS format. Format the USB flash drive as NTFS re-engraved. Well, let's test it out:

(3) UltraISO engraved u disk, convenient start with usb-hdd+ format, u disk format to NTFS (the same computer hard disk format), engraved well after starting from the U disk.

If booting with legacy, the following error:

If booting with UEFI, there is a mistake, cannot found/efi/xxx, enter the installation menu and then die:

Grass! Wasted a lot of my time. USB stick installed to die!!!

Here are some of the details of the flash drive. No use, leave a negative. I remember the 12.04-moment U disk installation is quite normal. Of course The CD installation is most insured!

Universal-usb-installer-1.9.5.7.exe and Ubuntu-14.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso downloaded on the Ubuntu official website, after burning the USB flash drive, the error from the USB flash drive is as follows:

 BusyBox v1. 15.3 (Ubuntu 1 : 1.15 . 3 -1ubuntu4) built- Shell (ASH) Enter " help '

(if booting from a USB stick says "operating system not found", turn UEFI on in the BIOS .) Because Ubuntu 14.04 uses the EFI feature. )

Searched the internet for a bunch of information, I do not know why.

Then with the UltraISO again carved again, resolved. Such as:

1. Format the USB drive, select the Write method

2. Click on easy start-up to write a new mbr->usb-hdd+

3. Point Write

One of the details is that UltraISO directly opens the Ubuntu-14.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso, displaying only one EFI folder, none of the other files. The workaround is to mount the ISO file to the virtual CD-ROM (you can use the virtual CD-ROM with the UltraISO, or other virtual optical drive software you installed), then open the CD-ROM with the click File, open the virtual optical drive, and then all the files in the ISO come in. The following is the general step: write the hard disk image with point start.
