Performance Monitor

Windows Performance Monitor uses performance counters, event trace data, and configuration information that can be merged into a data collector set.

Performance counters are units of measure for system state or activity. They can be included in the operating system or as part of an individual application. Windows Performance Monitor requests the current value of the performance counter at a specified interval.

Event trace data is collected from trace providers, which are components of the operating system or of individual applications that report actions or events. You can merge the output of multiple trace providers into a single trace session.

"Configuration Information" is collected from the Windows registry key values. Windows Performance Monitor can record registry key values as part of a log file at a specified time or interval.
