In Windows 8, you can use themes to help make your desktop more stylish. Themes can change the desktop background, window border color, sound, and screen saver on your computer at the same time, and you can switch topics whenever you need to. You can also create a custom theme and share it with friends and family.
What is a theme?
A theme is a combination of pictures, colors, and sounds. Topics include:
Various parts of the subject
Desktop background. A picture, color, or design that provides a background for an open window on the desktop. A desktop background can be a single picture or slide show. You can choose a desktop background image with Windows attached to it, or use your own picture.
Window border color. The color of the window border and taskbar. Themes can contain a specific window border color, or you can automatically choose colors based on the colors in the desktop background picture.
Voice. A collection of related sounds that are heard when an event occurs on a computer. An event may be an action you perform, such as logging on to your computer, or doing what your computer does, such as letting you know when a new e-mail message will be received.
Screen saver. A moving picture or pattern displayed on a computer screen after a specific period of time without using the mouse or keyboard. The screen saver is disabled in the topics that are included with Windows, but you can enable and add a screen saver to the topic.
You can find all of your themes in the Personalization section of the Control Panel. Click or click on any theme to apply it to your desktop.
Open personalization in the following ways: Swipe from the right edge of the screen to the middle, click Search (if you use the mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, then move the pointer down, click Search), enter personalize in the search box, and then click or click Settings and personalize.
