Creating Web and FTP servers is the most important content for creating an Internet Information Server through which users can effectively and intuitively publish enterprise information to internal users and Internet remote users; Through an FTP server, fast file transfers between servers and clients can be achieved.
Once IIS is installed, a default Web site and a default FTP site are automatically created for users to quickly publish content. Users can also create their own web sites and FTP sites to expand and enrich information on their Web servers and FTP servers. For Web servers, you can also use the Server Extensions feature to enhance the functionality of your Web site.
Set Home Directory
The home directory is the vertex of the corporate Web or FTP site publishing tree, and also the starting point for site visitors, which includes not only a home page but also links to other pages. If you want to publish information through the home directory, either place the information file in the home directory or organize it into a subdirectory of the home directory. All files in the home directory and its subdirectories are automatically open to site visitors. Visitors can view the file if they know the correct path and file name of the file they want to access, even if there is no link to those files in the home page. Therefore, save the files that you need to view only to the home directory or subdirectories.
Each Web site must have a home directory, and access to the Web site is actually access to the site's home directory. The home directory can be accessed by other visitors because it is mapped to the site's domain name. For example, if the site's Internet domain name is www.LWH.com and the home directory is D:\Website\LWH, the client browser uses the URL http://www.LWH.com/to access the files in the D:\Website\LWH directory.
The default home directory for IIS is \Inetpub\Wwwroot, which lets you publish information quickly and easily, but if the user wants to publish all of the files that are already in a directory, you can change the defaults home directory to the directory where the file is currently located instead of moving the file. The setup process for the home directory is as follows:
1. Open the Start menu and choose Program | Management tool "|" Configure server command to open the Configure Servers window.
