Family groups often fail when they attempt to share files with other versions of the Windows system. The reasons are often mixed, for example, the workgroup name is different, the settings are incorrect, and so on. Below we give a set of operating procedures for reference.

Step one: Synchronize the Workgroup

No matter what version of the Windows operating system you are using, the first step is to ensure that the workgroup names of the networked computers are the same.

To view or change information about your computer's workgroup, computer name, right-click Computer, and select Properties.

If the information needs to be changed, in the "Computer name, domain, and workgroup Settings" column, click Change Settings.

Click Change.

When you enter the appropriate computer name/workgroup name, press OK.

After this step is complete, restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

Step Two: Change the related settings for Windows7

Open the Control Panel network and Internet network and Sharing Center advanced sharing settings.

Enable network discovery, file and printer sharing, public folder sharing; Password-protected sharing section, select Turn off password protection sharing.

Note: Media streaming is best also open, and in the HomeGroup section, it is recommended to select Allow Windows to manage homegroup connections (recommended).

Step three: Shared Object settings

Now, let's move on to the shared object. The most straightforward way to do this is to drag and drop files/folders that need to be shared directly into a public folder.

If you need to share specific Windows 7 folders, right-click the folder and select Properties.

Click on the "Sharing" tab, and clicking the "Advanced Sharing" button.

Click ' Apply ' and ' OK ' to exit after the "Share this folder" is checked.

If a folder is set to be shared, all of its subfolders are set to be shared by default.

In the second step, we've turned off password-protected sharing, so we're going to make some changes to the security permissions for shared folders. Right-click the folder you want to share and select Properties. Small series to remind you on the Security page, click Edit.

Next, click the "Add" button.

After you type Everyone, press OK to exit.

Select Everyone, and in the permission bar, check the appropriate permissions that will be assigned to everyone.

Step Four: Firewall settings

Open Control Panel/system and Security/Windows firewall check your firewall settings to make sure that file and printer sharing is a permitted state.

Step five: View shared files

Open "Network and Internet" in turn, "View network computers and Devices" "(corresponding computer/device name)".

You need to be reminded that this method does help to share files, but the network security is reduced because the password access feature is turned off.
