Microsoft currently provides three types of images for download:

• Windows Developer Preview with Developer Tools English, 64-bit (x64)
• Windows Developer Preview English, 64-bit (x64)
• Windows Developer Preview English, 32-bit (x86)

Prepare the environment

I downloaded the 32-bit x86 version, installed it on a virtual machine, and allocated 1 GB of memory. The following are the results of various virtual machine platforms:

After mounting the Installation File in Virtual PC 2007 and VMWare Workstation, the system promptsHal_initialization_failed.

 

In the Oracle VM virtualbox, the installation is successful multiple times. After successful installation, the system type is other/unknown instead of windows, and the virtual hard disk format is vhd.

Windows 8 installation is similar to Windows 7 and Vista.
