A few days ago, it was reported that the secure startup feature of Windows 8 had been cracked by Peter Kleissner's "bootkit" program, but Peter said in an interview with Softpedia recently, the bootkit named "Stoned Lite" is designed for outdated BIOS-based boot systems and cannot break Microsoft's new security features.
He said that hard disk MBR is not subject to security verification during the traditional boot process, while Windows 8 secure Boot "features require UEFI and that all components must be digitally signed during the boot process, therefore, the current protection mechanism is still secure. However, he does not rule out the possibility of discovering the weakness of a new mechanism in the future. Peter will announce the bootkit program and related papers at the MalCon conference held on November 25 to discuss how to attack and counter such malicious programs.
