I. Installation of Windows Media Services

Although the Windows Media Server service is one of the built-in components of Windows Server 2003, it is not installed by default and needs to be manually added. In Windows Server 2003, in addition to using the "Windows component wizard" to install the Windows Media Service, you can also use the "Configure your server wizard.

(1) When the Windows Server 2003 operating system is installed and the system enters windows, the "manage your servers" window is automatically run. Click the "add or delete role" hyperlink to display the "Configure your server wizard" dialog box.

(2) Click "Next" in the dialog box. The computer will automatically detect all devices and operating systems and detect all network settings. After the detection is complete, the "configuration options" dialog box is displayed. Select the "custom configuration" option to customize the network services you need to install.

(3) Click "Next". The "server role" dialog box is displayed. All servers that can be installed are listed in the "server role" list box. The installation and uninstallation of most services in the system can be selected in this dialog box.

(4) Select the "Streaming Media Server" option in the list box, and click "Next". The "select summary" dialog box is displayed to view and confirm the selected options.

(5) Click "Next". The "Configuring components" dialog box is displayed, and the Windows Server 2003 installation disc is placed in the optical drive as prompted.

(6) After attaching the installation disc, click "OK". The system will start copying files from the disc and installing the Windows Media Service, and use the progress bar to represent the current installation progress.

(7) after the installation is complete, a dialog box is displayed, indicating that the server has been successfully set as a Streaming Media Server.

(8) Click "finish" to close the wizard and return to the "manage your servers" window. The Streaming Media Server is successfully installed.

In addition, the Windows Media Service can also use the traditional "Add/delete" method in the "Control Panel ".Program. In the "Windows component wizard" dialog box, select the Windows Media Services check box and insert the Windows installation disc as prompted to install the media.

After the Windows Media Service is installed, return to the "manage your servers" window. Click the "manage this Streaming Media Server" hyperlink to the right of "Streaming Media Server, or, choose Start> Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Windows Media Services to display the Windows Media Services window. All management work on the Windows Media Service can be completed in this window.

This window introduces some basic knowledge about streaming media, so that you can understand it as a publisher. On the "getting started" tab, click an option in the basic knowledge on the left to display the description of the item on the right.

Ii. Create stream files

Web services can be used to publish HTML files, while VOD can naturally be used to publish streaming media files. Convert files such as Windows images into streaming files used by the Windows Media Service .. Asf0000.wma and. WMV file extensions represent standard Windows Media file formats. The. ASF file extension is generally used for Microsoft Media-based content created using Windows Media Tools 4.0. The. wma and. WMV file extensions can be used as standard naming conventions for Windows Media containers. The purpose is to enable users to easily distinguish pure audio frequency (.wma) files and video (. wmv) files. These three extensions can be used for exchange.

 

1. Install Windows Media Encoder

Windows Server 2003 does not contain a Windows Media Encoder. You need to download the Simplified Chinese version of the Windows Media Encoder from the Microsoft official website, and then perform the installation process. It should be noted that the encoder can be installed on both the Windows Media Server and other computers. That is to say, the encoder only needs to be installed on the computer that executes the encoding (that is, converting the file format.

(1) double-click the downloaded Windows Media Encoder installation file. The installation wizard dialog box is displayed, showing the components that can be installed in this installation wizard.

(2) Click "Next" to display the "License Agreement" dialog box, asking the user to read the End User License Agreement and whether the accessible user accepts the terms in the license agreement, click the "I accept the terms in the license agreement" option.

(3) Click "Next" after the selection. The "installation folder" dialog box is displayed. The "installation folder" text box displays the location where the Windows Media Encoder will be installed. You can also enter other installation paths. Click Browse to select another installation path.

(4) Click the "Next" button to display the "prepare for installation" dialog box. Now, you can start to install the Windows Media Service.

(5) Click the "Install" button to copy the file to the hard disk and install the Windows Media Service. After the installation is complete, the installation completion dialog box is displayed, prompting that the installation wizard for the Windows Media Encoder 9 Series has been successfully completed.

(6) Click "finish" to complete the installation and restart the computer as prompted.

Choose Start> program> Windows Media Encoder to run the Windows Media Encoder and display the Windows Media Encoder window.

2. Convert the file format

The standard description of the conversion file format should be "encoding the storage Information Source". In fact, it is to convert the multimedia files stored on hard disks or CDs to the streaming media file format available for the Windows Media Service, this file format conversion process is called encoding. The Windows Media Encoder can encode MPG and AVI multimedia files into the WMV format.

(1) Click Start> All Programs> Windows Media Encoder to display the new session dialog box. Select the "conversion file" icon to convert the video file.

(2) Click "OK" to display the "new session wizard" window. Type the folder and file name of the file to be converted in the "source file" text box, or click "Browse" to find the file to be converted. By default, both the output file and the source file are saved in the same folder. Of course, you can also re-specify the saved folder.

(3) Click "Next" to display the "content delivery" dialog box to specify the way the content is distributed. Because the program is made for the Windows Media Service, you should select the "Windows Media Server (streaming processing)" option here.

(4) Click "Next" to display the "encoding options" dialog box. Here you can specify the audio and video encoding methods. If the video file is only used for LAN or broadband transmission, you can select high-quality videos and audio, and specify a High Frame Rate to obtain clear images and realistic sounds. Of course, the network bandwidth occupied at this time is also high, and the file storage space is also large. Each selected bit rate generates a corresponding WMV file. Therefore, you only need to select a bit rate.

(5) Click "Next". The "display information" dialog box is displayed. You can type the relevant information of the video file in the corresponding text box.

(6) Click "Next" to display the "Settings Check" dialog box, where you can view and check the information about the video file. If there are any errors, you can click the "previous" button to return to the relevant page and re-configure the relevant settings.

(7) Click "finish" to convert the file format. This may take a while and you need to wait patiently.

(8) after the format conversion is complete, the "encoding result" dialog box is displayed. Click "close" to end the format conversion process. To continue converting the next video file, click the new session button. To check the converted video file, click play output file.

3. encode the live video

Encoding operations on the live information source are performed by encoding the source information such as the audio, video, or image entered by the audio or video device, to convert them into streams or stream files. The encoding process for the live source is particularly similar to that for the stored source.

(1) After the Windows Media Encoder is started, select the "capture audio or video" icon on the "Wizard" tab in the "New session" dialog box, and click "OK, to run the new session wizard window. The "device options" dialog box is displayed, where you can use video and audio devices.

(2) Click "Next" to display the "output file" dialog box. To save the created file, you need to type a save path in the "file name" text box, and customize a file name. You can also click the Browse button to select a folder to save the file.

(3) Click "Next". The "content delivery" dialog box is displayed, listing the available distribution methods in the "how to distribute content" list box. Because it is streaming the live source, you should select the "Windows Media Server" option here.

(4) Click "Next" to display the "encoding options" dialog box. The encoding settings of the selected distribution method are displayed, including video, audio, and bit rate. If you do not want to use these default settings, you can also modify them.

(5) Click the finish button, enable the strict Windows Media Encoder for encoding, or click the next button to display the "display information" dialog box. You can add display information for this encoding file. This information will be displayed only when subtitles are started and played using Windows Media Player.

(6) After you click the "finish" button, the windowsmedia encoder is enabled for encoding. You can also click the "Next" button to check the setting information, the "Settings Check" dialog box is displayed.

(7) after confirming that the settings are correct, you can click "finish. Note that if you select the "Start capture after clicking finish" option, the information will be captured and encoded immediately after you click the "finish" button. Otherwise, the system does not capture the image immediately. A window is displayed.

(8) Click "properties" on the toolbar to view or modify the settings. To encode, click Start encoding. After the encoding is complete, you can click "save" to open the "Save as" dialog box and save the configuration information of the stream for later use or modification.

(9) after creating a streaming media file, you can enjoy the file through the Windows Media Player. You can select the "open URL" option in the "file" menu, type the URL of the stream file, and click "OK" to play the video.

In the open URL dialog box, you can enter the following URL addresses:

MMS: // SERVER_NAME/asfname

MMS: // server_ipaddress/asfname

MMS: // server_domain/asfname

SERVER_NAME, server_ipaddress, and erver_domain indicate the computer name and IP address Domain Name of the indows Media Server respectively, while asfname indicates the stream file name.

 

4. Capture the screen

The Windows Media Encoder can also be used to capture screens and windows. It can also capture activity information of a specific area or window on the screen for a period of time and make it a demo file, to be viewed or downloaded by other users.

(1) Start the Windows Media Encoder, and then click "new session" on the toolbar in the Windows Media Encoder main window. The "new session" dialog box is displayed. Select the capture screen option on the wizard tab, and click OK. The new session wizard dialog box is displayed.

(2) the dialog box lists three modes that can be captured, namely, a specific window, a screen area, and the entire screen. Select the "specific window" option and click "Next". The "window selection" dialog box is displayed. The existing active windows are listed in the "window" drop-down list of the dialog box. You can select a window to capture as needed.

If the "screen area" option is selected in the "screen capture session" dialog box, click "Next" to display the "screen area" dialog box, in this case, you can enter the position of the screen area in the coordinate box. For convenience, you can also click the screen area selection button and drag the mouse pointer on the screen area to select the screen area. Then, when the screen is captured, the Windows Media Encoder main window is minimized and not captured at the same time.

If you select the "entire screen" option, all the activity information of the entire screen will be captured and the corresponding stream file will be made.

(3) After selecting the capture mode, click "Next" to display the "set and select" dialog box. Here, the user is required to choose based on the balance between the size and quality of the input file.

(4) Click "Next" to display the "display information" dialog box. This is similar to the encoding operation for storing information sources and live sources. Click "finish" to start encoding. If you do not want to encode the code immediately after the setting is complete, you can cancel the "capture after clicking finish" option in the "Settings Check" dialog box, and then click the "finish" button, modify the parameters in the main encoder window.
