How to restore GRUB boot after installing Windows
This will discuss how to restore grub after installing Xp/vista/windows 7. If you use dual system (Ubuntu/windows), after you reload Windows, the Grub menu disappears because Windows overwrites the hard disk's operating system to boot the system MBR.
Method 1: Use Ubuntu 9.10 LiveCD
First, please download Ubuntu from Ubuntu website.
Here, we assume that the Ubuntu installation partition is/dev/sdc3,/boot partition is/DEV/SDC2.
Now, using LIVECD to start the computer, open "applications"-"accessories"-"terminal", enter the following command, log in as root, and do the following:
Sudo-i
Mount/dev/sdc3/mnt
Mount/dev/sdc2/mnt/boot
Grub-install -- root-directory=/mnt//DEV/SDC
If you do not have a ' grub.cfg ' file, please recreate it as follows:
Mount -- Bind/proc/mnt/proc
Mount -- Bind/dev/mnt/dev
Mount -- Bind/sys/mnt/sys
Chroot/mnt Update-grub
Umount/mnt/sys
Umount/mnt/dev
Umount/mnt/proc
Exit

Method 2: Use Grub for Dos
Grub for DOS can be downloaded from here: Hard Punch
for XP operating systems:
Copy the grub file to the C packing directory and edit the C:\Boot.ini file (you need to remove the hidden, read-only, System properties) and add a line:
C:\grldr= "Grub4dos"
for Windows 7/vista users:
Also copy files to the C packing directory, build the boot. ini file, and save the following:
[boot loader] Timeout=0 Default=c:\grldr.mbr [Operating Systems] C:\grldr.mbr= "Grub4dos"
------------I'm a split line of Method 2--------------------------------------------------
Now in the C packing directory to build files (XP, Vista, Windows 7 are applicable), the content is as follows:
Timeout 0 Default 0 Title Grub2 Find-- Set-root/boot/grub/core.img Kernel/boot/grub/core.img Boot
Now reboot, select Grub4dos to boot and go to Ubuntu.
Log in to Ubuntu, and later use the following command line to rebuild Grub:
sudo grub-install/dev/sdc
Note: The above method involves hard disk operation, please be careful. |

Installing Ubuntu with Grub
According to the tutorial, I added the following statement to the menu:
Title Install Ubuntu
Root (hd0,0)
Kernel/vmlinuz Boot=casper Iso-scan/filename=/ubuntu.iso
Initrd/initrd.gz
My image (Ubuntu.iso) and Vmlinuz initrd.gz are all in the C root directory.
But after entering grub boot, the Ubuntu installer is selected to show Error 17 file not found (translation)
What do you do?
Question added: Yes, in.
But first a few screens of English, and they flashed past
Then come out a white flashing circle logo
Then it's black, and N's not responding.
That one...... There is a piece of music before the black screen ...
Look at the information seems to be not hanging on the monitor, mouse, keyboard ...
But it seems that there is only one sound card???????

Well, landlord, with grub, guided into the LiveCD,
Download the Ubuntu Desktop version image.
Extract Vmlinuz Initrd.lz, (under Casper directory. 9.10 for Initrd.lz. 7.04 for Initrd.gz,
Make the appropriate changes in the menu.lst. )
Then according to the landlord's menu.lst.
Put the downloaded ISO, put to (hd0,0) the usual C-drive, the name to the LST file Ubuntu.iso, (well, this name can be casually.) But be consistent. )
Then reboot and enter LiveCD. Ubuntu is installed on the desktop.
Well, above for personal experience, 9.10 and 10.04 beta HDD have been installed.
