Hyper-V, energy-saving improvements are key performance

Microsoft has completed the development of Windows Server 2008 R2. Microsoft has already put the gold code on the producers, which means users, partners, original equipment manufacturers, and TechNet and MSDN Service subscribers will get the code in the next few weeks.

Windows Server 2008 R2 has been put into production, and in the RTM review of this article we will focus primarily on areas not previously covered, including Hyper-V 2.0 for Remote Desktop services, as well as improved energy management and energy-efficient use.

Before we go into the details, let's take a look at the package. In general, the author believes that Windows Server 2008 R2 provides a modest but interesting improvement kit and updates the previous server Windows version. Some customers would definitely consider this a compelling upgrade:

One of the most important items in Hyper-V 2.0 is the live migration. Essentially, if you are trying to build a cluster with Hyper-V virtual machines, you must create a LUN for each virtual hard disk (VHD) on the San where the virtual hard disk exists. There may be 24 or fewer drive letters that are free and can be done with a globally unique identifier, and those long, bulky alphanumeric identifiers can cause administrative headaches.

All CSV volumes are saved in the Clusterstorage root directory, so it's easy to browse through different volumes by clicking in Windows Explorer, or browsing directories in the command line.

Hyper-V 2.0 also provides support for 64 logical processors on a managed host, including adding to a running virtual machine and no need to restart the operating system on the virtual machine. You can also allocate memory dynamically without disrupting other services. Finally, processor compatibility allows for real-time transfer of different versions of CPUs in the same processor family, but cannot be transferred between different series of processors.

With all these improvements, Hyper-V 2.0 is a product that many customers have long awaited. Hyper-V now provides the same performance as VMware's enterprise solutions in some scenarios.
