Hyper-V, energy-saving improvements are key performance

Microsoft has completed the development of Windows Server 2008 R2. Microsoft has already put the gold code on the producers, which means users, partners, original equipment manufacturers, and TechNet and MSDN Service subscribers will get the code in the next few weeks.

Windows Server 2008 R2 has been put into production, and in the RTM review of this article we will focus primarily on areas not previously covered, including Hyper-V 2.0 for Remote Desktop services, as well as improved energy management and energy-efficient use.

Before we go into the details, let's take a look at the package. In general, the author believes that Windows Server 2008 R2 provides a modest but interesting improvement kit and updates the previous server Windows version. Some customers would definitely consider this a compelling upgrade:

Energy improvements can save a lot of costs. The virtual functionality provided by Hyper-V 2.0 saves twice times the power consumption, and Windows Server 2008 R2 Clears many of the scale and functionality barriers for some companies.

Windows 7 and Windows Server 20,082 tools allow you to activate some really useful scenarios, such as DirectAccess and other Remote Desktop services. Of course it will take a considerable amount of money to keep going, so many businesses are powerless, at least in the current economic climate.

Customers who have not yet updated their hardware devices or customers who are temporarily not ready to update the device will have to postpone the R2 deployment plan because the system is limited to 64 digits. In addition, although the product does exist some significant, important upgrades, but for most customers are not yet the degree of urgent update. Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 still apply in many companies.

Hyper-V 2.0

Microsoft launched Hyper-V for the first time in June, and it's tempting to launch Hyper-V with Windows Server if it's only compared to VMware. Hyper-V lacks real-time migration capabilities, measurable and some integration performance.

One of the most important items in Hyper-V 2.0 is the live migration. LM, of course, is Microsoft's response to VMware's most popular vmotion technology, which can move a virtual machine from one physical host to another. Although the existing Hyper-V support for rapid migration, the transfer process will remain for a few seconds: if your hosting requires software updates or hardware maintenance, you can move the VM from one managed to the other in real time, and then perform the required changes or fixes. When you are done, you can transfer the appropriate VM back without disturbing the user.

An obscure performance in hyper-v2.0 is the cluster Shared volumes. Essentially, if you are trying to build a cluster with Hyper-V virtual machines, you must create a LUN for each virtual hard disk (VHD) on the San where the virtual hard disk exists. There may be 24 or fewer drive letters that are free and can be done with a globally unique identifier, and those long, bulky alphanumeric identifiers can cause administrative headaches.

into CSV, it can place multiple virtual hard disks on a single LUN, and the virtual machine itself thinks the virtual hard disk is still on its own LUN. All CSV volumes are saved in the Clusterstorage root directory, so it's easy to browse through different volumes by clicking in Windows Explorer, or browsing directories in the command line.

Hyper-V 2.0 also provides support for 64 logical processors on a managed host, including adding to a running virtual machine and no need to restart the operating system on the virtual machine. You can also allocate memory dynamically without disrupting other services. Finally, processor compatibility allows for real-time transfer of different versions of CPUs in the same processor family, but cannot be transferred between different series of processors.

With all these improvements, Hyper-V 2.0 is a product that many customers have long awaited. Hyper-V now provides the same performance as VMware's enterprise solutions in some scenarios.
