Windows Server R2 WSUS-1: Deployment Environment Overview

Starting today, I'm going to start writing a new series of articles, from planning and deployment of WSUS to operations and troubleshooting, that will involve all aspects of WSUS. The introduction of this series will be based on WSUS in Windows Server R2.

The current WSUS update server is widely used in enterprises, whether used alone or in combination with SCCM, providing an efficient and stable way for enterprise clients to install various patch updates. But it's not the same thing to use it and use it well. After the establishment of SUS, it also involves a lot of operations and maintenance work, process work, change management and so on. This time I will do a tutorial on WSUS from the following aspects, is a relatively simple learning mind map of WSUS.

In Windows server 2012, WSUS is a server role that can be installed to manage and assign updates. The WSUS server can act as an update source for other WSUS servers in your organization. The WSUS server that acts as the update source is referred to as an upstream server. During the WSUS implementation, at least one WSUS server must be connected to the Microsoft update to obtain available update information in the network. Administrators can determine how other servers connect directly to Microsoft updates based on network security and configuration.

In this deployment, my demo environment consists of the following machines, each of which has different server roles and features installed.

Environment and overview of deployment Now I'm done, and the next one will formally begin the preparation for WSUS before deployment.
