System Folder details Win2000/XP

Now that we have finished the win98/Me system folder, let's talk about the popular Win2000/XP system folder. After the system is installed, three folders, WinNT (Windows for XP), Documents and Settings, and Program Files, are generated by default ". Compared with Windows 9x/Me, many folders in the system installation directory (Winnt or Windows) have the same effect. Because many required files are stored in "Documents and Settings", we will also introduce them as system folders. Like "Win9X/Me", we will only introduce important and common folders.

 1. Different folders under the installation directory and Win9X/Me

The same folder as Win9X/Me has been mentioned in the previous article. I will not repeat it here. This section only describes different folders than Win9X/Me.

Connection Wizard: stores the files used by the Internet Connection Wizard.

Driver Cache: this folder usually contains the i386 folder, which stores the Driver compressed files used (this file usually has dozens of megabytes ).

Ime: the input method information is stored in this folder.

Prefetch: Pre-read folder. To speed up file access, a pre-read technique is used in WinXP to generate new information (files with the extension PF) for the accessed files in this folder ).

Repair: When Win2000/XP is installed for the first time, the system automatically saves system files such as AUTOEXEC. BAT and CONFIG. SYS here.

Resources: A folder that stores related desktop themes.

System and System32: although these two folders are also available in Win9X/Me, almost all System files in Win2000/XP are stored in System32, in system, only 16-bit drivers and shared runtime libraries of some software are stored.

Temp: in Win2000/XP, this folder basically does not work, because each user has its own Temporary Folder (put it under "Documents and Settings", see the introduction below ).

2. "Documents and Settings" folder

By Default, this folder contains Administrator, All users, Default User, LocalService, NetworkService, and folders created with different User names (if the system has multiple users ), in addition to LocalService and NetworkServiceviwl (they are created by the "Service Management" program in WinXP and are provided to those programs used as services. For example, when installing Foxmail Server to build an email Server, these two folders are required by the system and do not modify them at will (the default is implicit attribute ). All others are user-configured folders with the same folder structure.

1) Take "All users" as an example to describe the main content contained in the user configuration file (some folders mentioned below may be implicit properties. You must first set to display All files in the system to see them ):

① Application Data: common Application Data folder. The private data of some installed applications is stored here, which is automatically generated during software installation. For example, in the Application Data folder of All users, there may be a MicrosoftWordStartup folder (if the Office is installed, the documents to be automatically opened when the Word is started are stored here ).

② "Start" menu Folder: stores some program groups and shortcuts in the Start Menu.

③ Desktop Folder: stores some desktop projects of the login user.

Bean doll prompt: a user's "start" menu and project on the desktop include the content of the two folders under the corresponding user name folder and the two folders under All Users.

④ Templates: Template folder, which may contain template files such as Word and Excel. It is used as a reference template when you right-click and choose "New.

⑤ Shared document: Of course, it is the storage of the stuff you are allowed to share. The following two folders are shared images and shared music.

2) for different users, there will be:

Local Settings: The Local Settings folder stores application data, history records, and temporary folders, such as History, Temp, and Temporary Internet Files ).

Application Data: The content in the Application Data folder under different user folders is also different. For example, the Application DataMicrosoftInternet assumerquick Launch stores the shortcut in the "Quick Start" toolbar on the right of the "Start" menu, application DataMicrosoftAddress Book is the OE address Book.

In addition, user folders include NetHood, PrintHood, Sendto, favorites, desktop, and other folders.

3) If you log on to the system with an account that belongs to the domain or working group in the LAN, there will be "All Users" in "Documents and Settings. windows (for WinXP) or All Users. winnt "(for Win2000) folder; if the system is re-installed in overwrite mode, and the same user name is set during the installation process, when the installer creates user information and finds a folder with the same name already exists, the "user name" is automatically used. create a new user configuration information folder.

In addition, there will be some Files necessary for the system to run under "Program Files" (Application folder. The contents of this folder vary greatly depending on the software installed after each user installs the system, including "Common Files" (the public library Files used by the software) internet Explorer (IE browser is not in the installation directory), Windows Media Player (Media Player), etc.

Now let me talk about it. I hope this article will help you understand Windows.
