Friends we are using Windows every day, but are you familiar with its system folders? In the following article we will describe the role of various Windows operating system folders.
System Folder detailed win9x/me article
It is said that Windows9x still has a lot of users, and Windows Me and windows9x are very similar. This will take you into the Windows 9x/me Main system folder, see them a transparent bar.
First of all need to clear a concept, "System Folder" refers to the main operating system files folder, usually in the installation of the operating system automatically created and the relevant files in the corresponding folder, which directly affect the system's normal operation, most of them do not allow arbitrary change.
Command
There are a lot of DOS external command programs in this folder, and these gadgets are useful for system fixes in a system crash, such as bootdisk.bat files that can be used to create a boot disk on a DOS command line.
Cookies
Cookies folder, which stores some personal information that the Web site creates on your hard disk when browsing certain sites, such as user names, visited URLs, and so on.
Desktop
Desktop folders, files that are stored in the folder are displayed directly on the desktop.
Downloaded program Files
folder where IE downloads files are stored. It contains the files that are required to display a Web page that you have opened (most files are used to run animations on a Web page). Note: This is not the folder where the software you downloaded must be placed.
Favorites
The Favorites folder. We add a Web page "to Favorites" in IE, which in effect stores shortcuts to the Web page in that folder, and, of course, creates more folders under that file so that you can categorize your favorites.
Fonts
The font folder. All the fonts that are used in the system are stored here, so adding a new font can also copy the font file directly to this location except by opening the "Install new Font" item in the Font window of Control Panel You can also delete some of the less frequently used font files (but note that the screen fonts with the. fon extension are best not to be deleted so that the system does not display properly).
Help
The folder where the Help files are stored. There are a lot of very detailed help files in it, you can see these help files when you encounter problems, they will help users a lot.
History
History folder. When you browse through a Web page in IE browser, ie defaults to create a history information to store here. If you do not want to let others know your whereabouts, you can delete the contents of this folder.
Offline Web Pages
Browse the location of files offline. When a site is set to allow offline use, the corresponding file is generated in that folder.
recent
Log the folder of the recently opened document. The contents correspond to what is in the document item in the Start menu, so you can delete the shortcuts in the folder directly if you want to clear the recently opened document record.
Start Menu
Start Menu folder. The items in it correspond to the program items in the Start menu, where you can adjust the Start menu items (such as additions, deletions, reclassified, and so on).
Sysbckup
This folder is used to store the system's backup information for the registry and system files.
System
This is a system folder that contains important files (such as DLL files) in the system, and some software copies files to the folder when it is installed, so the content in this folder will increase as the installed software increases. The files within this folder are generally not easily deleted, or they can cause system errors.
System32
32-bit system folders, many of which have virtual device files (with a VxD extension), and removing them at will can cause system errors and even crashes.
Temp
A temporary folder that holds temporary files that are generated when the system runs. The files usually need to be cleaned manually.
Temporary Internet Files
temporary folder for IE. This folder contains some of the content generated by IE browsing the Web page, which is read from here when you open the same page again to speed up browsing. Therefore, the appropriate increase in space for the temporary folder will make browsing faster (set in Internet Options in Control Panel).
System Folder detailed WIN2000/XP article
Now that I've finished Win98/me's system folder, let's talk about the popular WIN2000/XP system folder. After the system installation is complete, three folders are generated by default: "WinNT" (Windows for XP), Documents and Settings, and program Files. Many folders in the System installation directory (Winnt or Windows) have the same effect compared to windows9x/me. Since many of the system-required files are stored under documents and Settings, we also introduce them as a system folder. As with "win9x/me," we still only introduce important, common folders.
1. Different folders under the installation directory and win9x/me
The role of the same folder as Win9x/me in the last article I have mentioned, there is no more to repeat. Only folders that are different from win9x/me are described here.
Connection Wizard: Stores the files used by the Internet Connection Wizard.
Driver Cache: This folder will also have a i386 folder, which is stored in the use of the driver compressed files (the file is generally a few 10 megabytes).
IME: Input method information is stored in this folder.
Prefetch: Pre-read folder. In order to speed up file access, pre-read technology is used in WinXP, which generates new information (a file with the extension PF) under that folder for the files that are accessed.
Repair: The first time the installation of WIN2000/XP system automatically save Autoexec.bat,config.sys and other related system files here.
Resources: A folder that holds related desktop topics.
System and System32: Although both folders are in Win9x/me, almost all system files in WIN2000/XP are placed under System32, while system only holds some 16-bit drivers and shared runtime libraries for some software.
Temp: This folder has been largely non-functional in WIN2000/XP because each user has its own special temporary folder (placed under Documents and Settings, see later).
2. "Documents and Settings" folder
By default, this folder will have administrator, all users, Default user, LocalService, NetworkService, and folders created with different user names (if there are multiple users on the system), In addition to LocalService, NETWORKSERVICEVIWL, which are created by the service Management program in WinXP, are provided to those programs that serve as a service. If you install the Foxmail server to build the mail server, these two folders are system-required, do not arbitrarily modify (the default is implied properties). The other folders are configured for the user, and the folder structure is roughly the same.
1 Take "All users" as an example to explain the main content contained in the user profile (some of the folders mentioned below may be suppressed and need to be set up so that the system displays all files before they are visible):
①application data: A Generic Application database folder. Here is a set of specialized data for some of the applications that have been installed, which are generated automatically when the software is installed. For example, under the Application Data folder for all users, you might have a Microsoftwordstartup folder (if you have Office installed, this is the document you want to open automatically when Word starts).
② the Start Menu folder: Stores some of the program groups and shortcuts in the Start menu.
③ Desktop folder: Store Some of the desktop items for the logged-in user.
Doug Tip: A user's Start menu, items on the desktop include the contents of both folders under the corresponding User name folder and all users below.
④templates: Template folder, which may have template files for Word, Excel, and so on, is the reference template for selecting "New" when you right-click.
⑤ Share documents: Of course, the things you allow to share are stored. The following are two folders for shared images and shared music.
2 for different users, under the User name folder will also be:
Local Settings: It is a locally set folder that holds the application's data, history, and temporary folders, such as history, temp, and temporary Internet files (same as in win9x/me).
Application Data: The contents of the Application Data folder under different user folders are also different, such as application Datamicrosoftinternet Explorerquick launch store "Start" The shortcut on the Quick Launch toolbar on the right side of the menu, Application datamicrosoftaddress Book is the OE address list, and so on.
In addition, the user folder also has NetHood, PrintHood, Sendto, favorites, desktops and other folders.
3 If you are in the LAN, when you log into the system with a domain or workgroup account, there will be "all Users.windows" (for WinXP) or "All Users.winnt" in "Documents and Settings" (to Win2000) folder, and if the system is reinstalled with overrides and the same user name is set during installation, the user name is automatically used when Setup discovers that a folder with the same name already exists when the installer creates the user information. Computer name Name to create a new User Configuration information folder.
In addition, there are some files that are required for system operation under Program Files (Application folders). The contents of the folder vary greatly depending on how the software is installed after each person installs the system, and there will be "Common files" (Common library files that the software uses), Internet Explorer (ie is not in the installation directory), "Windows Media Player, etc., is not detailed here.
Okay, here's what I want to say, a little article to help you get to know windows.
