13.3 Build Workstation | server network

To build a workstation | A small server network, you must set up a network server first. For the choice of the network server, the user can choose a computer with good performance as the server according to the actual needs.

13.3.1 Select a workstation/server-type network operating system

In a workstation | server network, the operating system used by the server is for each group of users to consider. Commonly used operating systems are Windows NT server 4.0,windows, and so on. Here's a brief introduction to both of these operating systems.

1. Windows NT Server 4.0 operating system Windows NT operating systems are divided into stand-alone (Windows NT Workstation) and Network editions (Windows NTServer). The more widely used network operating systems are currently in Windows NT Server version 4.0. Windows NT Server version 4.0 has 32-bit address space, supports symmetric multiprocessor and multiple types of CPUs, supports multiple transport protocols, and is compatible with a variety of other networks, with an NTFS (Windows NT file System) new file management system. The file management system can make the file system more secure, stable and reliable.

Windows NT Server version 4.0 has a user-friendly graphical user interface that is easy to build, maintain, and share resources, and in Windows NT Server 4.0, there are two modes of workstation | Server network and PEER-TO-PEER network.

The system configuration requirements for Windows NT Server 4.0 are as follows:

CPU: The minimum configuration is inter 80486/25, it is recommended to use CPUs above Pentium level.

Memory: Minimum 12MB, it is recommended to require at least 32MB more memory space.

Hard disk space: The minimum hard disk space required for the system is 117MB, and it is recommended to use a large capacity high speed hard drive above 1GB.

2. Windows Server operating system Windows 2000 is developed on the basis of Windows NT and Windows 95/98 operating systems and has four versions, which are Windows Professio for desktops and laptops, respectively. NAL, Windows Server for small and medium sized networks, Windows2000 Advanced server for application servers and more powerful servers, and Windows Datacenter for large network systems Server.

Compared with the previous network operating systems, Windows Server has been further enhanced in terms of security, reliability, maneuverability, adaptability and network performance. Compared to NTS4.0, Windows 2000Server has the advantages of supporting multiple file systems, supporting Plug and Play, Automated System recovery, ease of management, support for multiple languages, multiple system integration environments, and perfect Internet functionality.

Windows Server requires a higher system configuration, as follows:

Cpu:pentium more than 133, it is recommended to use Pentiumⅱ or higher models of CPUs. Windows 2000Server supports up to 4 CPUs.

Memory: At least 64MB, it is recommended to use 128MB or 256MB memory.

Hard disk: 5400 turn above hard drive, it is recommended to use 7200 turn hard disk, 850MB free space, it is recommended to reserve more than 2GB free space.

Optical drive: 12 times times or more high speed CD-ROM or DVD-ROM.
