In Windows XP, has integrated the different network segment "Bridge" function, its configuration is simple and convenient, greatly facilitates the small and medium-sized local area network interconnection and the expansion. So how do you correctly understand the Windows XP Network Bridge function? What are the issues to be aware of when configuring the network components of Windows XP? The following article for your detailed introduction, I hope to help you!

Note the following when configuring the network components of Windows XP:

1, configure Windows XP Network Bridge Server do not make up a domain controller, just configure to become a stand-alone server.

2, the installation of the two network card should be guaranteed to work properly, the test method is: Open "Control Panel → system", find the "Hardware" tab, click "Device Manager", expand "Network Adapter", see the icon of two network cards without a yellow exclamation mark, "Device status" is "working normally" can.

3. The network communication protocol supported by the Windows XP Network Bridge is TCP/IP and can only forward packets in a network that communicates with the TCP/IP protocol. However, the host operating system in the network is not necessarily the Windows family, if Linux or other operating systems, as long as the TCP/IP protocol is properly loaded, the Windows XP Bridge can work together with it.

Next, let's start by configuring the Windows XP Bridge step-by-step.

The first step: assign different IP addresses to the two different network segments in the Network Bridge. We want to interconnect two network segments one is 10.0.0.0, in the network Bridge we may optionally choose a network card, assigns it the fixed IP address 10.0.0.1, serves as the 10.0.0.0 network interface. The method is: Open Control Panel, select Network, check the properties for local Area connection (first network card), turn on "TCP/IP", select "Specify IP Address", fill in 10.0.0.1, subnet mask 255.0.0.0, and Gateway 10.0.0.1.

Similarly, we can assign the IP address to "Local Connection 2" (the second network card) to 192.168.0.1, the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, and the gateway is 192.168.0.1.

Step two: Start the Windows XP Network Bridge. Right-click on "Local Area Connection" (first network card), find "New bridge", and after clicking, Windows XP will appear a "Network Bridge" icon. However, because there is only one network interface in the Network Bridge, so the network bridge is still temporarily unable to work (Network Bridge icon on the Red Fork). We can see that the icon for the Network Bridge has changed after we have also performed a new bridge on the local Connection 2 (the second network card). Click the right mouse button on the bridge icon and select Properties to check the properties of the network interface that you just joined, such as the name of the NIC, the IP address to which they are bound, and so on.

The third step: After the Network Bridge starts, will the 10.0.0.0 network segment's host gateway all set to 10.0.0.1, will 192.168.0.0 the network segment the host gateway all to set to 192.168.0.1. We choose a computer in the 10.0.0.0 network segment, such as 10.0.0.2, type "ping 192.168.0.2" on the command line, if you receive the response of "Reply from 192.168.0.2 ...", you can explain that the network Bridge works properly, The two network segments are connected and can transmit files to each other.

Two points to add:

1, Windows XP Network Bridge is not limited to connect two network segments, it can connect multiple network segments, the network segment of the interface according to the above mentioned method to join in turn.

2, Windows XP Network Bridge can only take the way to manually specify the network path, so the efficiency is not very high, in a large LAN, the need to forward the packet traffic is very large, its role is not as special as the router.
