first, set the speed to index

With hundreds of gigabytes of hard disk capacity today, it can take a long time to search for the right results if the file search is still as slow as it used to be; however, the Windows Server 2008 system dramatically improves file search speed by using the file indexing feature. This is not, before searching for files in a Windows Server 2008 system environment, we can experience the pleasure of "what we get" by making the right settings for the file indexing function, the following is the specific setup steps:

For security reasons, the Windows Server 2008 system does not have the file indexing feature installed by default, so the first thing to do is to install and configure the file indexing feature to improve file search speed through the file indexing feature. When installing the file indexing feature, we should first enter the Windows Server 2008 system with system administrator privileges, click the Start/program/admin Tools/Server Manager command, and open the Server Manager window for the corresponding system.

Displays the area on the left side of the Server Manager window. Click the role option, and in the right display area for the option you would like to select the Add Roles feature button, open the Choose Server Role List window, select the File Services option (as shown in Figure 1), click Next, and then follow the wizard prompts, Select the Windows Server 2003 File Services/Indexing Service option, and then click the Install button so that the file indexing feature of the Windows Server 2008 system is successfully installed.

Next, we go back to the Windows Server 2008 System desktop, open the Start menu in which you click Settings/Control Panel commands in the corresponding Control Panel window, double-click the Indexing Options item, open the Settings window shown in Figure 2, and clicking Modify in the window button, in the interface that pops up, we can define the index location on the basis of actual requirements, such as allowing the Windows Server 2008 system to perform file indexing only on the specified disk partition or on the contents of the specified folder.

Tip: Although the older version of the system also provides file indexing, the file indexing feature of the Windows Server 2008 system is functionally functional in a way that is automatically indexed for different file types without indexing all of the disk partition files on the entire computer. So from this perspective, Windows Server 2008 Systems search for files faster than older versions of the system.

Second, search documents everywhere feasible

After you install and set up the file indexing feature for the Windows Server 2008 system, it will take some time for you to search the contents of the hard disk on the local computer, after all, Windows Server 2008 the system takes some time to establish index information for all the target files in the computer; However, the length of time required to wait is often not fixed, and in an environment where the computer system is running fast and disk space is small, Windows Server 2008 system to establish file index information faster, then we need to wait for the time may be shorter, while the computer system is running slow, disk space capacity is very large environment, the Windows Server 2008 system to establish file index information is relatively slow, Then the time we need to wait may be longer.

Unlike file searches in an older system environment, we can do file search operations in several different locations in the Windows Server 2008 system, and it is possible to search for files anywhere, for example, by opening the Start menu of the Windows Server 2008 system, We'll see the file search box, in the Search text box, enter the keyword you want to search for, and the Windows Server 2008 system automatically searches for the target file, and the search results are synchronized to the system's Start menu (as shown in Figure 3). And, no matter which folder window or Explorer window we go to, we can see the text search box in the upper-right corner of the corresponding window, and the Windows Server 2008 system can quickly search for files after you have entered the keyword content correctly in the Text search box. What's even more surprising is that the file search feature of the Windows Server 2008 system allows us to experience the thrill of "what we search for", and as the number of keywords entered becomes more and more, the results of the search function feedback to us are more and more specific.

  Third, improve the efficiency of file search

If you do not make any settings for the file Search feature of the Windows Server 2008 system, by default, the system will look for specific file content on all of the disk partitions on the local computer, and the file search operation will take longer as the disk partition space becomes larger. In fact, the content of the files we need to look for is often saved in a specified partition or folder, and a full search of all disk partitions by default by the Windows Server 2008 system will undoubtedly degrade file search efficiency. In order to effectively improve the efficiency of file search operations, we can specify a Windows Server 2008 system search scope, so that it has a destination for the specified disk partitions or folders to search, the following is the specific steps to set up operations:

First in the Windows Server 2008 System desktop, open the Start menu, click the Search, search files, or Folders menu option, and then go to the File Search Settings window for the corresponding system, clicking the Advanced Search button in the upper-right corner of the window to open windows The Advanced Search dialog box for the Server 2008 system, as shown in Figure 4;

Second, click the Drop-down button at the location of the Figure 4 interface, select the Choose Search Location option from the Drop-down menu, open the Select Search Location dialog box, and expand the Computer node option in the Change selected location list in the dialog box. Select a specific disk partition symbol or folder icon option below the node option, and then click OK to end the search location selection action;

Then, in the search box in Figure 4, enter the keyword you want to find correctly, and then click the Search button, so that the Windows Server 2008 system automatically searches for the specified partition or folder, without a full search of each disk partition in the computer. In this way, file search efficiency will be greatly improved. If there are a lot of results, we can also use the filter button in the Search window to quickly filter, so that the system only displays the results of a specific file type, such as we can click on e-mail, documents, pictures or music, such as filter buttons, to categorize the results of the search, This will help us find the content of the file that we really want from a lot of search results.

In addition to improving file search efficiency by specifying file search scopes, we can improve the efficiency of file searches for Windows Server 2008 systems by using advanced settings such as date, size, and attributes; For example, we can set date parameters, To narrow the file search to any time before or after the specified date; Set the size parameter to find files that are greater than or less than a specified size, set property parameters, filter the search based on one or more file properties, such as file names, tags, and authors, and limit the search to files that contain all the properties you specify.

In addition, there is a way to improve file search efficiency, that is, save the search results. If we often search for certain file content, it is necessary to perform the same file search frequently, at this time we often find that saving search results can greatly improve the efficiency of file search. Once the search results have been saved, we don't need to recreate the same view of the file each time, just open the previously saved search results, Windows Server 2008 will automatically perform a quick search, displaying only the latest file content that matches the original search that was performed. When you save the file search results, we simply click the "Save Search" button in the corresponding interface toolbar after the file search is finished, then set the appropriate file name in the File name text box, and then click the Save button. The search file will be automatically stored in the Search folder, and we can quickly open the folder by clicking the Search link in the navigation window.

  Four, to search options to the results

Sometimes we find out that the Windows Server 2008 system does not search for the results that they want, but in fact the search results are saved on the local hard drive. This is most likely because we didn't set the file search option correctly, for example, if we canceled a subfolder search , the results saved in a subfolder are naturally not displayed by the search.

Therefore, in order to make the file search results more accurate, we must make the appropriate settings for the file search options for the Windows Server 2008 system before the file search operation. When you do this setup operation, we can start a file search at random in the Windows Server 2008 System's File Search window, and when the file search is complete, click the Search Tool button in the toolbar in the Search Results window and select search options from the Drop-down list. Open the Search Options Settings dialog box as shown in Figure 5. In the Settings dialog box, we can specify how the files are searched, searched, and searched for, for example, in order to search for results that are hidden in a compressed folder, we must select the "Include Compressed files" option here; to be able to search for special files that contain the specified keywords in the contents of the file. We need to select the "Always search for filename and content" option here. In short, to get accurate file search results quickly, it is necessary to set the search option parameters correctly before searching.
