In the face of the rapid development of wireless networks, how should we solve the 802.11 Wireless Network Configuration Under WIN xp? This requires our network manager to be familiar with the network configuration process. Here we will introduce it to you.

The use of wireless networks in homes and small businesses has obvious advantages. When using a wireless network, you do not have to install cables to connect separate computers, while portable computers (such as laptops and laptops) they can roam in the house or in small business offices while maintaining their network connections.

Although there are a variety of wireless network technologies that can be used to create wireless networks, this article will describe the use of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 standard.

Wireless Network Configuration-IEEE 802.11 Overview

IEEE 802.11 is a group of industry standards used to share Wireless LAN (WLAN) technology, the most common use of which is IEEE 802.11b (also known as Wi-Fi ). IEEE 802.11b uses the 2.4-2.5 GHz S-Band industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) frequencies to transmit data at 1, 2, 5.5, or 11 Mbps. Other wireless devices such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, wireless video cameras, and devices using another wireless technology called Bluetooth also use S-Band ISM.

Ideally, the IEEE 802.11b speed can reach 11 Mbps, And the bit rate is higher than 10 Mbps for wired Ethernet. In less ideal conditions, it will use a low rate of 5.5 Mbps, 2 Mbps, and 1 Mbps.

The IEEE 802.11a standard has a bit rate of up to 54 Mbps and uses the 5.725-5.875 GHz C-Band ISM Band. This higher-speed technology makes the wireless LAN network more outstanding in video and conference applications. IEEE 802.11a provides a higher data transmission rate and clearer signals because it is located in different frequencies than a basket or microwave oven.

The IEEE 802.11g standard has a bit rate of up to 54 Mbps and uses the S-Band ISM. All guidance on configuring wireless nodes in this article applies to wireless networks based on IEEE 802.11b, 802.11a, and 802.11g.

Basic architecture of wireless network configuration

The IEEE 802.11 standard specifies two operation modes: Infrastructure mode and specific mode.

The Infrastructure mode is used to connect a computer (also known as a wireless client) with a wireless network adapter to an existing wired network. For example, a home or small enterprise office may have an existing Ethernet network. With the infrastructure model, laptops or other desktop computers that do not have a wired Ethernet connection can seamlessly connect to the existing network. A network node called a wireless access point (AP) is used to bridge a wired network and a wireless network. Figure 1 shows a basic structure-mode wireless network.

Figure 1 infrastructure-based Wireless Network

In basic architecture mode, data sent between the wireless client and other wireless clients and nodes in the wired network segment is first sent to the Wireless AP. Then the Wireless AP forwards the data to the appropriate destination.

Specific Wireless Network Configuration Mode

This mode is used to directly connect a wireless client to an existing wired network without a Wireless AP. A specific network can contain up to 9 wireless clients, which directly send data to each other. Figure 2 shows a wireless network in a specific mode.
