I think latex is more convenient than word is its automatic processing of various numbers, examples of tables, chapters, formulas, citations and so on, and directly with a label can be referenced. The advantage of Word is that it is intuitive to see, and can easily be inserted into various content, slices, tables, etc. But word's auto-numbering feature is a bit of a headache, and hopefully Microsoft will be able to introduce Latex methods into Word. But before that, we had to use Word to provide cross-reference functionality, and now summarized as follows:
Reference documents
The automatic numbering of references is easy, and a numbered list can be built. Reference, open the "References" tab of the "Cross-Reference" dialog box, "Reference type" select "Numbered Items", "Reference content" select "Paragraph number", and then select the reference entry to insert, click "Insert" is OK.
As for the format of the reference itself, I first use Google Academic search to the literature "import Endnote", and then choose the output Style from the endnote, directly copied from the preview window.
Of course, you can also use the endnote plug-in reference insertion function, you can directly insert the format of good literature, but the disadvantage is relatively slow, not recommended.
Pictures and tables
The automatic numbering of the chart is used for the insert Caption feature of the Reference tab. Select "Tags" from the dialog box (whether it is a chart or a table), and if not, you can "create a new label" and then click OK. To refer to in the article, it is also in the Cross-Reference dialog box, the reference type selection chart or table, the reference content selected only labels and numbering.
Formula
The most complex is the number of the formula. The method is similar to a chart, but if you use a chart method to insert a cross-reference after the caption, you will find a reference to insert the entire formula in. The method I used is to refer to this page, which is quoted as follows:
- Press ENTER after the formula is tab to a position suitable for inserting the formula number.
- Insert the formula number in the new row with the caption "Insert", "reference". The formula number line is the caption style, and the formula line is the original style.
- Move the cursor to the end of the line of the formula, and press the Ctrl+alt+enter key to insert a style delimiter. The formula number line is then attached to the end of the formula row. It looks like it's on the same line. This is the formula number line or the caption style, and the formula line is also the original style.
- Use cross-reference to reference the formula number where you want to reference the formula, and you can select the whole caption to reference all the contents of the formula number line.
Although this page introduces a very old version of Word method, but for my word2013 still fit. The key to this method is to insert a separator with the Ctrl+alt+enter key, then you can apply two styles in a row, so Word does not use the formula itself as part of the caption when cross-referencing. How do I automatically number formulas in Word 2010? "The method of this page can also try, but I tried, not good use."
Some other things to note:
- The advantage of this automatic numbering and reference is that when you want to update the reference number of numbers, Select all, right-click "Update Field" on it, do not have to manually one by one to change, very convenient.
- The Cross-Reference dialog is non-modal and can be opened and placed on the edge (it is best to design a dockable tab).
- Like Ctrl+alt+enter, Word has features that are not found on the interface, such as Ctrl+enter, but not fragments, shift+f5 jumps to the previous view , and so on. Some of them are useful, but they're not, and it's probably too complicated for word itself. You can view and modify them from the options-Customize ribbon-keyboard shortcuts: Custom.
- If you take someone else's template to modify, you may encounter an inexplicable error, at this time you can create a new document, the creation of those styles , it is generally OK.
