Word customization toolbar due to Acrobat missing resolution

Author: User

Microsoft Word can customize toolbars and menus, and many friends on the Internet say that this feature of Word will disappear after installing Adobe Acrobat 7.0. The author also encountered similar problems, after research, the problem has been resolved, the way is introduced to everyone.

First, the problem symptom

We know that in the process of editing a document, when you change the items stored in the common template (Normal.dot), Word pops up the dialog box shown in Figure 1 to prompt you to save the template, and if you click Yes, the new and changed items will be saved in the common template (Normal.dot).

The items stored in a common template (Normal.dot) include:

◇ macros.

◇ style.

◇ AutoText entries.

◇ toolbars and menus.

After you install Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional, Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard or Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Elements, changes to the above items will not be saved to the common template (Normal.dot) , this means that your newly added macros and AutoText entries, as well as your changes to styles, toolbars, and menus, will not be available in the new document the next time you start Word. A typical example is when you customize the toolbar, and the next time you start Word, it will still look the same.

Tip: This issue can occur even if you select the prompt to save Normal template check box on the Save tab of the Options dialog box.

Ii. causes of the problem

The main reason for this problem is that Acrobat 7.0 installs a COM add-in in a folder that provides PDFMaker toolbars and menu commands for Office programs, but also blocks automatic detection and preservation of the common template (Normal.dot).

Third, the solution

Method 1: Force the Save the Common template (Normal.dot)

You can force a shared template (Normal.dot) to be saved when the items that are stored in the common template (Normal.dot), that is, macros, styles, AutoText, toolbars, and menus change.

The first step: Hold down the SHIFT key and open the File menu, the Hide command "save All" on the File menu appears, and then click the command.

Step two: The dialog shown in Figure 1 pops up and clicks Yes.

Tip: We can also directly add the Save All command directly to the File menu by dragging "Save all" to the File menu (see Figure 2) On the Customize dialog box. This way, when the common template (Normal.dot) changes, click the command directly.

Method 2: Uninstall the COM add-in

Since this problem is caused by the COM add-in installed by Adobe Acrobat 7.0, we can resolve this problem by uninstalling the COM add-in. However, after the COM add-in is uninstalled, you won't be able to convert Office documents directly to PDF files.

Step One: Click Add and Remove Programs in the Control Panel to open the Add and Remove Programs window, select Adobe Acrobat 7.0, and then click the Change/Remove button to start the Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Setup Wizard.

Step two: On the Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Setup Wizard, select Modify and then install the COM add-in in Word or another Office program (Figure 3), and finally click &ld

Quo update ".

Step three: Next, remove the COM add-in from the registry. Open Registry Editor, navigate to [Hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftofficewordaddinspdfmaker.officeaddin], and then delete the subkey.

Tip: The registry subkey for other Office programs COM add-ins is:

Hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftofficeexceladdinspdfmaker.officeaddin

Hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftofficepowerpointaddinspdfmaker.officeaddin

Hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftofficeoutlookaddinspdfmoutlook.pdfmoutlook
