To obtain the best results, first determine whether you only need to display the page number, or whether you want to display the information and page number in the header or footer. If you need a page number without any additional information, add the page number. If you need page number and other information, or you only need other information, add a header or footer.

Add page number (without any other information)

If you want to display the page number on each page, and you do not want to contain any other information (such as the document title or file location), you can quickly add the page number in the library, you can also create custom pages or custom pages that contain the total number of pages (page X, total page Y ).

Add page number from library

  1. In"Insert"Tab"Header and footer"Group, click"Page number".

  1. Click the location of the desired page number.
  2. Scroll through the options in the library, and then click the desired page number format.
  3. To return to the document body, click"Design"Tab (located in"Header and footer tools"Bottom) on"Close the header and footer".

NoteThe page number Library contains the "page X, total page Y" format, where Y is the total page number of the document.

Add custom page number

  1. Double-click the header area or footer area (near the top or bottom of the page ).

  1. To place the page number in the middle or right of the page, perform the following operations:
    • To place the page number in the middle, click"Design"Tab"Location"Group"Insert the 'aligname' tab", Click"Center"And then click"OK".
    • To place the page number to the right of the page, click"Design"Tab"Location"Group"Insert the 'aligname' tab", Click"Right"And then click"OK".
  2. In"Insert"Tab"Text"Group, click"Document parts"And then click"Domain".

  1. In"Domain Name"List, click"Page"And then click"OK".
  2. To change the numbering format, click"Header and footer"Group"Page number"And then click"Set page number format".
  3. To return to the document body, click"Design"Tab (located in"Header and footer tools"Bottom) on"Close the header and footer".

Add a custom page number containing the total number of pages

Some pages in the database contain the total number of pages (page X, total page Y ). However, to create a custom page number, perform the following operations:

  1. Double-click the header area or footer area (near the top or bottom of the page ).

This will open"Header and footer tools"Under"Design"Tab.

  1. To place the page number in the middle or right of the page, perform the following operations:

Add a header or footer containing a page number

If you want to add a graph or text at the top or bottom of a document, you need to add a header or footer. You can quickly add headers or footers from the library, or add custom headers or footers.

You can use the above steps to add a header or footer without page numbers.

Add a header or footer from the database

  1. In"Insert"Tab"Header and footer"Group, click"Header"Or"Footer".

  1. Click the header or footer to add to the document.

Add custom headers or footers

    • Type the information you want to include in the header.
    • Add the domain code by clicking"Insert"Tab,"Document parts"And"Domain"And then"Domain Name"Click the desired domain in the list.

Examples of information that can be added using fields include Page, NumPages, and FileName ).

  1. If the "Page" field is added, you can click"Header and footer"Group"Page number"And then click"Set page number format"To change the numbering format.
  2. To return to the document body, click"Design"Tab (located in"Header and footer tools"Bottom) on"Close the header and footer".

Numbers starting from 1 on other pages

You can start numbering on the second page of the document or on other pages.

Number starting from page 2

  1. Double-click the page number.

This will open"Header and footer tools"Under"Design"Tab.

  1. In"Design"Tab"Option"Group, Select"Different homepage"Check box.

  1. To start from 1, click"Header and footer"Group"Page number"And then click"Set page number format"And then click"Start number"And enter"1".
  2. To return to the document body, click"Design"Tab (located in"Header and footer tools"Bottom) on"Close the header and footer".

Start number on other pages

To start numbering from other pages rather than the document homepage, you need to add a Segmentation character before starting the numbering page.

  1. Click the start of the page.

Press Home to make sure that the cursor is at the beginning of the page.

  1. In"Page layout"Tab"Page settings"Group, click"Separator".

  1. In"Subscriber", Click"Next page".
  2. Double-click the header area or footer area (near the top or bottom of the page ).

  1. In"Header and footer tools"Of"Navigation"Group, click"Link to the previous section"To disable it.
  2. Follow the instructions in add pages or add headers and footers containing pages.
  3. To start from 1, click"Header and footer"Group"Page number"And then click"Set page number format"And then click"Start number"And enter"1".
  4. To return to the document body, click"Design"Tab (located in"Header and footer tools"Bottom) on"Close the header and footer".

Add different headers, footers, or pages to different parts of the document.

You can only add page numbers to a part of a document. You can also use different numbering formats in different parts of the document.

For example, you may want to use I, ii, iii numbers for directories and descriptions, and 1, 2, and 3 numbers for the rest of the document, rather than any page number for the index.

In addition, you can use different headers or footers on odd and even pages.

Add different headers, footers, and page numbers to different parts.

  1. Click the beginning of the page where you want to start setting, stop setting, or change the header, footer, or page number.

  3. To select the numbering format or start number, click"Header and footer"Group"Page number", Click"Set page number format"And then click the format and"Start number"And then click"OK".
  4. To return to the document body, click"Design"Tab (located in"Header and footer tools"Bottom) on"Close the header and footer".

Add different headers, footers, or pages on odd and even pages

  1. Double-click the header area or footer area (near the top or bottom of the page ).

This will open"Header and footer tools"Tab.

  1. In"Header and footer tools"Tab"Option"Group, Select"Different parity pages"Check box.

  1. Add the header, footer, or page number to be displayed on an odd page.
  2. Add the header, footer, or page number to be displayed on an even page.

Delete page number, header, and footer

  1. Double-click the header, footer, or page number.
  2. Select the header, footer, or page number.
  3. Press Delete.
  4. Repeat Step 1-3 in each partition with different headers, footers, or pages.
