WordPress popular plug-ins expose websites to the risk of being hijacked by hackers

Researchers from the security company Sucuri warned that the popular WordPress plug-in MailPoet with more than 1.7 million downloads were found to have security risks, making the website vulnerable to hacker hijacking. The website uses MailPoet to create a text message and automatically publish notifications and responses. This Bug allows attackers to upload any files to the website server without any administrative permissions. The researchers did not disclose the details. MailPoet's release of version 2.6.7 corrected the bug and any website that installed the plug-in should be updated automatically. Sucuri's CTO Daniel Cid said the bug should be taken seriously.
