This indicates that there is an error in the Windows Media Player version registry value and that the Windows Media Player version component file may be corrupted. We can try the following methods to solve the problem:
Modifying version registry key values
In the Start search box, type Regedit.exe, and then press ENTER to open Registry Editor.
If the User Account Control window pops up, please allow to continue.
Key value found: hkey_local_machinesoftwaremicrosoftmediaplayersetupinstalled Versions
Right-click the key value "Installed Versions", select "Export", select the desktop for the save location to export the file for backup.
In case of any problems after modifying the registry, we can also double-click on the desktop to import the backup file to restore.
Once the backup is complete, we can do it boldly. In the right detail window, see if the following key values exist:
Wmp.dll
Wmploc.dll
Wmplayer.exe
If present, select, right-click, and select Delete.
When the confirmation window pops up, click Yes to continue.
Quit Registry Editor, restart your computer, and then check to see if Windows Media Player is running properly? (After you complete each method, you test the problem is resolved)
