Although author is referenced in each content type, it is added only once to the list. In addition, if author is required in the spec content type, but is optional in the memo content type, this field is required only for list items of spec content type in the list.
Add columns in the list to the content type
If we directly add columns to the list and the list contains multiple content types, we can specify whether the newly added columns are referenced by all these content types. If we reference it to the list content type and set this field as required, this field will also be required for each content type. However, we can overwrite the entire required setting in the specific list content type.
