WSUS preparation prior to SCCM deployment

WSUS is a Microsoft standalone product that updates server-based distribution to Windows systems. WSUS also uses WUA to scan the applicability of patches and subsequently installs updates provided by WSUS. The version of WSUS 3.0 Service Pack 2 is embedded in Windows Server R2. Because SCCM TP4 only supports 64-bit site systems, we must use one of the 64-bit versions of Windows Server support for 64-bit versions of WSUS.

Next we'll install WSUS for SCCM TP4 in the following steps:

Open the Server Manager for the SCCM server and click "Add Roles and Features":

At the Select feature location remain default, click Next:

Tick "WSUS service", "Database" and click Next:

In the "Content location selection" location, because WSUS downloads and stores the license terms in the Update content folder for specific software updates. During the update synchronization process, Configuration Manager applies the license terms in the content folder. If it cannot find the license terms, it does not synchronize updates. So we need to provide a folder path, and then click Next:

Select a location for the DB instance to specify the database server where you want to store the WSUS database. Click "Check Connection" and you must see the message. To connect to the server successfully, click Next:

Confirm the error in the summary location, click Install:

When the installation is complete, click "Start post-installation Tasks":
