Beijing Union University keenly captures the development trend of this industry, after multi-research, decided to build a cloud platform based on GIS technology, to provide a platform for learning and communication to the whole faculty and students, and to popularize the knowledge of geographic information science, and to show scientific research. Beijing Union University has learned that the school has successfully built a cloud platform based on GIS technology and completed internal testing. At present, the platform has been formally put into use, began to serve the school's teaching, research and other work, the future of its external service functions will be continuously improved and strengthened. As the first university cloud GIS platform in China, its success is put into use or it will bring new work ideas for talent training and subject research of geographic information and related majors in China, and promote the steady development of China's space information industry.

The Cloud GIS portal at Beijing Union University is a private cloud platform built on the world's largest GIS technology and service provider, ESRI's portal for ArcGIS products. Compared with traditional GIS software, this cloud portal is simpler to operate and more convenient to publish and share content.

The campuses of Beijing Union University are geographically dispersed, and the resources of the schools are relatively scattered. At the same time, most of the college's teaching and research work has GIS requirements. For example, the history department teacher needs to use the GIS to draw the archaeological work site map, the special education college needs to use the GIS to make the Beijing special educational Resources distribution map, the tourist school needs to use the GIS to carry on the visitor behavior simulation research and so on.
