EMC Inc. today released a global survey. The survey, involving 10,451 IT business decision-makers in 33 countries, was executed by Vanson Bourne, which aims to understand how people around the world perceive the changing role of IT organizations in the organization. The survey revealed a rising global cloud computing adoption rate, with most respondents saying the hybrid cloud is the preferred option to achieve greater agility and security.

The respondents believe that the IT department is now more than ever to promote business growth, but the sector is losing control of spending. Most people surveyed believe that in order to support business growth, IT departments must become agents that provide on-demand services within the organization. This pressure, coupled with the growing shortage of IT skills, seems to make IT pros more interested in adopting a hybrid cloud.

The main findings of the survey include:

The challenge and power of using hybrid cloud

Although 71% (Asia Pacific and Japan are 69%) are in favor of it as an in-house on-demand service agent strategy, but the survey data show that it has a lack of self-confidence in its ability to promote business growth. 35% per cent believe that their institutions do not have the appropriate skills and knowledge needed to achieve the growth of critical business. In the Asia-Pacific region and Japan, the figure is as high as 42%. 69% of people believe that the challenge for their institutions over the next 1 to two years is to train IT staff to understand the impact of trends such as cloud, mobile, social, and large data.

The importance of hybrid cloud and automation is improving

The importance of innovation in infrastructure automation and hybrid cloud is highlighted.

since 2013, the mixed cloud adoption rate has grown by 9%, with a global adoption rate of 27%, Europe, the Middle East and Africa region with the highest adoption rate (28%), followed by Latin America (24%) and Asia Pacific and Japan (24%). 64% per cent of global respondents, and 68% per cent of Asia-Pacific and Japan, said they needed a hybrid cloud because the hybrid cloud provided agility and flexibility. 74%, to achieve business growth, the immediate task is to improve the level of automation of the infrastructure.

The future of cloud computing and the suspicion of public clouds

Although more and more organizations are using the Web to do business, only 16% of the world's 11% of the people surveyed in the Asia-Pacific region are willing to host any applications on the public cloud. The majority of people surveyed are reluctant to put their applications on public clouds including financial Planning (39%), Human Capital Management (35%) and ERP (32%). Developed countries with more advanced it economies are at the forefront of cloud computing, and emerging markets appear to be more risk-averse, with lower overall cloud adoption rates. But emerging markets are more bullish on it and hybrid clouds. 79% said that expectations of trends such as cloud, mobile, social, and big data brought competitive advantages (75% in developed countries) and 67% that public and private clouds would improve security and agility (a figure of 60% in developed countries).
