10gen and Microsoft partners provide NoSQL database in cloud

We are excited about the continuous cooperation between 10gen and Microsoft. We are actively leveraging the new features of Windows Azure to ensure that common customers using MongoDB in Windows Azure get the latest features and the best experience.

In early June, Microsoft released a preview version of Windows Azure virtual machine, which enables customers to deploy and run Windows and Linux instances on Windows Azure. This allows the user to control the instance more largely without using the accessibility tools. In addition, this is the most familiar pattern for customers who run instances in their private cloud or other public cloud. While Windows Azure is released, 10gen and Microsoft now offer MongoDB installation packages under Windows Azure.

The MongoDB installer under Windows Azure automatically creates an instance under Windows Azure, deploys MongoDB, opens the associated ports, and configures the replica set. When you use a Windows system machine, the installer starts immediately and can be used to deploy the MongoDB replica set to the Windows Azure virtual machine. Additionally, Setup uses an instance operating system driver to store MONGODB data, which limits storage and performance. Therefore, we recommend that the client use the installation program only for experiment purposes at this stage.

We also have a tutorial that instructs users to deploy a simple stand-alone MongoDB server to Windows Azure virtual machines on Windows 2008 R2 Server and CentOS. In both cases, the data on the disk is secured when the system crashes or restarts by using the Windows Azure data disk.

In addition, triple replication of Windows Azure protects against damage to storage data. However, no solution can take full advantage of MongoDB's high availability performance. To deploy MongoDB for high availability, you can take advantage of the MongoDB replica set;

Finally, customers who want to deploy the MongoDB replica set to the CentOS virtual machine can follow these basic steps:

1. Register Windows Azure virtual Machine preview feature
2. Create the required number of virtual machine instances
3. Connect the disk and format it
4. Configure ports to allow remote shell and MongoDB access
5. Install MongoDB and log in
6. Configure the replica set
