In Tuesday, Thomas Sohmers, just 17 years old, unveiled a new high-speed computer server, which uses a low-power arm processor, which consumes a small fraction of a common computer.

Sohmers demonstrated the server at the Open Compute Project conference in San Francisco this week. OCP

The product is the first product launched by Sohmers, a company founded by Rex, and another founder of Rex, Kurt Keville, a 52-year-old, currently Keville as CTO.

Sohmers's launch of this product, can be described as a high-speed computing power and low energy collection as a whole. "Apart from electronic engineers, I think I'm an entrepreneur," says Sohmers. I believe that the work I have done will have an important impact on the whole world. ”

Sohmers dropped out of high school a few years ago and joined the Under Thiel Fellowship, founded by Peter Thiel. When other peers were preparing for college in 2011, Sohmers began to learn programming. He won 100,000 of dollars in seed money and followed some of the most famous tech professionals in Silicon Valley.

Sohmers worked and studied at the MIT Research Laboratory to study everything from augmented reality glasses to laser communication systems. Also there he met Rex's other co-founder, Kurt Keville. But before he officially entered the MIT lab, his parents did not seem to support him in abandoning his studies.

"I have applied three times to join the MIT lab," Sohmers said. The first time I applied was 14 years old, when my parents didn't support me very much. But then they found out that I wasn't happy in high school. So they began to understand what I thought. Now they are very supportive of my work. ”

After joining the MIT lab, Sohmers finally found his own world. Sohmers, now 17, says he doesn't regret abandoning his studies and starting a business.

"Even if I can't change the world, I will reap something else," he says. People tend to worry too much about going to school and starting a business. But business is in the eyes of researchers, your degree is not important, the important thing is your ability. ”
