The public cloud services in Gartner's report include IaaS (infrastructure services) provided by Amazon and OpenStack public transport providers.

IaaS is still the fastest growing cloud computing service

While the industry's classification standards for the cloud computing market are diverse, the overall demand for cloud computing services is growing. Gartner's report notes that cloud business process services (BPaaS) is the second-largest cloud services segment after cloud advertising, finding 28% of total 2012 cloud computing spending, followed by cloud application services (SaaS) accounting for 14.7%, and cloud computing infrastructure Services (IaaS) accounting for 5.5%. Cloud management and cloud security services account for 2.8%, and cloud Application infrastructure services (PaaS, platform, or service) account for 1%.

Notably, IaaS public transport services and cloud storage are the fastest growing categories of public cloud services. The growth rate of 2012 was as high as 42.4% to 6.1 billion dollars. 2013 IaaS growth will increase to 47.3%, market size will reach 9 billion U.S. dollars. This is thanks to a growing number of companies using cloud computing for production environments, not just development and testing environments, Gartner research director Ed Anderson said.

Cloud Advertising is the largest public cloud market segment

Gartner also included "cloud advertising services" in the popular Public transport service category and became the largest public cloud segment, with 2012 cloud advertising services accounting for 48% of all public cloud spending. Gartner predicts that in 2013-2016, global cloud services spending will total $677 billion trillion, of which $310 billion will be spent on cloud advertising services. Gartner's definition of cloud advertising is: the ability to support the process of selecting, trading, and delivering advertising and related data, by which advertisers choose content and prices by bidding. Cloud advertising vendors include: AOL, Apple, AppNexus, Baidu, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, OpenX and Yahoo.

Gartner's cloud computing report also points to regional differences in the development of public cloud services:

Although the market for public cloud services is growing in all regions, the deployment of cloud computing in different countries is not the same. A successful strategy in one country may not work in another. Local economic factors, policies and regulations, local political climate, market patterns of local and global operators, including those that do not provide cloud computing, have led to different cloud computing markets across countries and regions.

Highest penetration rate in North America, fastest growth in emerging markets

North America remains the region with the highest rates of public transport services, and Gartner predicts that in 2013-2016, public cloud services in North America will account for 59% of all new cloud services spending. Public cloud penetration in Western Europe will continue to rank second, with public clouds accounting for 24% of all cloud-computing spending. But the fastest growth in public cloud services remains in emerging markets, particularly in Asia, China, Indonesia, India and Latin America, Argentina, Mexico and Brazil.
