After 2011 and 2012 of blowout growth, the mobile internet in 2013 continued to maintain this trend and further threaten the PC-side Internet. But behind this is the rapid maturation of the mobile APP ecosystem and the intensification of competition.

Recently, Baidu released the first quarter of 2013, "mobile Internet Development trend report." The report shows that in the process of speeding up the migration of Internet users, native applications have already appeared "Matthew Effect", and mobile users are aggregating to mainstream and high frequency mobile applications. This means that the blue sea is becoming redder and harder for small developers.

App Store's top 1000 downloads (less than 0.1%) apps account for more than half of the total downloads. This Matthew effect means that the extension of the APP will increasingly rely on channels and promotional capabilities, in the mobile Internet competition, the pursuit of users of the "Growth game" will become the master channel and resources of the battle between the Giants.

We have consolidated the relevant content of the report. The report showed that the mobile Internet showed the following trends in the first quarter of 2013:

1. PC Internet accelerates migration to mobile end:

Mobile internet per capita online longer than PC Internet continued rapid growth trend

By March 2013, the gap had widened to 29%.

After the 2012 Q3 mobile internet per capita Internet access for the first time beyond the PC Internet, for six months to continue its rapid growth trend. Data show that as of March 2013, the gap between the two has widened to the 29%,pc Internet moving to the mobile end of the pace of further acceleration.

2. The entry status of browsers is being weakened:

In the past six months, the per capita use of browsers grew by only 2%, below average per capita growth.

the percentage of per capita startup is reduced, the proportion of browsers being invoked by other apps is getting lower

Data from the report show that with the popularity of microblogging, micro-letters, mobile search, and the large Native APP are built in the corresponding browser, a wide range of users to dilute the mobile web browser dependence. Since the second half of 2012, browsers have both been lower in terms of the total number of daily launches per capita and the proportion of calls to other apps. Mainly reflected in the user's use of time, with the search, audio and video, maps and other applications of the growth in the length of the time, the entrance position of the browser has been weakening.

3. Native APP faces two long tail dilemmas:

Users are constantly using the main stream of high-frequency Native app concentration, low-frequency and unknown Native app often fall into two long tail dilemma.

"Distribution Dilemma": less people in the App Store, unable to reach the user

"Use Dilemma": Users are rarely used after downloading, but can not remember or find it.

The report shows that the number of Native apps in the user's mobile phone has increased and the number of daily launches has decreased, and the user's use of the Native app has been concentrated to increase the head effect. For the low-frequency and unknown Native APP, it faces a more severe "distribution" and "use" Long tail dilemma. These three dilemmas have created a big challenge for developers.

Among them, most low-frequency and unknown Native app stores in the App Store are less popular, unable to reach the user's phone. Data show that the top 1000 of the App store downloads (less than 0.1%) apps account for more than half of the vertical downloads. This shows that the "Matthew effect" is obvious when the user downloads the application. The dilemma is also reflected in the utilization rate, the user is rarely used after downloading, but can not think or find it, or even 60% of the Native APP was downloaded after the installation of the week has not been used, of which about 1/3 in one months have not been used, gradually become "zombie application."
