Consumers will choose physical stores when buying cosmetics, according to a June 2014 Harris Interactive Survey, 57% of us netizens say they prefer to buy cosmetics, personal care products such as cosmetics, shaving products and facial cleanser in physical stores. At the same time, only 12% of people like to buy these goods online, and 21% say they have no special preference.
It is not surprising that 65% of netizens have never bought cosmetics or personal care products online. People who shop for cosmetics prefer to use PCs or laptops, and 31% of respondents choose this device to buy cosmetics online. On mobile devices, only 5% of respondents used tablets to buy cosmetics, and 4% bought them with smartphones.
Even among digital buyers, cosmetic and personal care products are not responding enthusiastically. In the March 2014 Ups,comscore and the e-tailing Group survey, only one-third of U.S. digital buyers bought the product in the three-month intranet. In the first place, by contrast, books, music and movies (57%) were ranked second in clothing (56%).
The results of the March 2014 Nielsen study did not offer much hope, and when asked about the planned online purchases in the next 6 months, 22% of American netizens chose cosmetics, the second-lowest category.
